Bulgarian ski resorts, where do you start. In Bansko the ski passes are overpriced the staff are rude, the slopes are over crowded and the building work is over the top. The mountan can't deal with the influx of hotels and it it looks and sounds like a spanish costa....full of drunk overbearing brits who have bought cheap property and are dragging what was once a real gem down to the gutter.
It is full of people who have skied once and think they longer need an instructor and so block up the slpes and create hazards by not being in control. The peopl ein charge do nothing to ensure the saftey of these halfwits or others and the whole place is a complete shambles driven by greed and drunk idiot brits.
I am ashamed to be English sometimes
scum

I agree in part about the over crowding and building work, and have regularly read about drunk brits etc on this forum. I have been to Bansko for last 3 seasons, and i suppose i am one of the so called greedy brits by investing in the place.
I can say though, having gone with a group of male friends everytime, we have gone for the skiing and also for the apres ski, we have never seen any evidence of drunken brits and never seen a bit of trouble. So anyone reading the forum who has never been to Bansko and thinks that the place is full of 'Scum Brits' abroad, not in my opinion it isn't.
I cant defend the over supply of apartments and lack of infrastructure and general mess of the town. But once up in the mountains it is spectacular and is a great place for a cut price ski holiday, for familys, beginners, immediates, groups etc etc.
Just my opinion!

Have to say that the ratio of british v irish v Polish v Russian etc us from the UK do not add up to that higher a percent.
Note - not seen any violence there, maybe that because we go to Mehanas and staythere all evening drinking Wine & beer and enjoying the local foods.
As for the Skiing well my first time was beginning of April - a fantastic trip really enjoyed it. The slopes were very empty too.

Not sure if this has been discussed in GREAT detail before or not - new to the site. Only stating my experiences. Also went with my wife and kids this year and although we frequented different places at different times to what i did when i went with friends the experience was still the same.
Please note i am not saying this to try and get tourist through my rental door, i have already realised that i will never cover my running costs because of the oversupply. But i will still still enjoy many ski holidays there. For an affordable skiing holiday i think many would agree!

The number of people you meet on the pistes with absolutely no idea how to ski is, I agree, quite shocking. frankly I'm surprised there are not more accidents/fatalities.

just pure luck.
God is looking down and protecting BG resorts.
Why you people are trying to protect the same place?
Don't waste you time!

I've never seen so many broken legs - three on one plane! Countless broken arms in the resort.

There were a few accidents when I was there. Two were on a very quiet slope 1st thing in the morning, crowded slopes can equal accidents, but people pushing them selves to get to a higher level is far bigger problem when it comes to accidents.
As for the druken brits, personally I have never seen it in Bansko and have been to both mehanas and to the bars, ok I dont stay out really late. But have never had a problem.
Other grip here is not all Brits are like that its the minority but unfortunatley thats what gets us all a bad name.

1.accidents and drinking on skis are like siamese twins.
2.Also if you want to progress with the winter sports very quickly you will end up on a stretcher or caster plaster.
it takes time to become good skier you know not few hours here and there and a hell of a lot of experience.
If you are going in Bulgaria statisticaly you must be a beginner(more or less 100% and objectively placed in that category not what you think you are) or just above complete beginner.
so calm down slow down !
take your time and after good few seasons maybe just maybe you will get better and push the accidents away from yourself.
