Do's and don'ts places to go, places to avoid in bansko......

Going Bansko next week for first time, 2 tight ass travellers looking for tips on where to eat/drink for best value, places to avoid etc, do's and don'ts.

Anything will be appreciated.

Also do the cash points tell you teh exchange rate before you withdraw?

Thanks

There are loads of really good mehenas down the main street, can't comment on this years prices but good value last year.

The cash machine do give the exchange rate.

If you need a supermarket stay away from the one as you walk to the perun opposite the friendly bar, the prices there are a lot more expensive than some of the others around.

The friendly bar was an ok place at night with good music. food there was resonable pizza and jacket pots, good if you get a bit tired of the ...

Theres a small but cheap and friendly supermarket just down the street near the lion pub to the right if you are facing lion pub, past the italian restuarant and opposite hotel bulgaria.

Reccomend El Toritos for food, follow that street i mentioned above then take a red, about 100m down its signposted on lamposts. Good service, really good food, and really good price, 10lv for a massive meat and veg skewer bbqd in front of you, 10lv for wine, bout 2lv for beer.

Had a good week in Bansko, there so many places to eat and drink! And if you stay well away from places like happy end and friendly pub and Amigos, you are likely to get much much better prices rather than be ripped off!

Lol @ Rachel - still in ski run mode eh "red".

As others have said on here - many mehanas down in the town - all pretty good. Friendly also good but Happy End is expensive. Try out the mehanas - you will enjoy.

I agree there are plenty of decent mehanas around in the town., Venture a little away from the top end where the gondola is and you'll be rewarded. We used the supermarket near the hotel Bansko a few times, very reasonably priced, (Beer very cheap in there too). If you venture a little further down the road past the Bansko and turn right it will head you towards the town square, there is a corner shop there (almost like a back alley it's in) and we found this even cheaper than the ...

Hi, been back from Bansko a week, had an absolutely fabulous time, (4th year) and enjoyed many really good mehanas, especially those tucked away off Pirin Street, but one to avoid; Mehana Bansko.

Very rude young man standing outside trying to gain customers; went as a group, my sister is quite good at speaking some Bulgarian, said "No thank you, another time" and he told her not to talk in her "Crap Bulgarian".

Very rude young man standing outside trying to gain customers; went as a group, my sister is quite good at speaking some Bulgarian, said "No thank you, another time" and he told her not to talk in her "Crap Bulgarian".

The next night he told our group we were "Tight fisted"! We were nothing but polite to him, but who would actually want to eat there?

The good mehanas don't need people outside them, we have had 4 years of brilliant meals in great mehanas without being enticed inside. To get to the bottom of Pirin Street we now don't "run the gauntlet" and go down the side streets to avoid the pressure.

We're going again in the Summer for the jazz festival for the first time and it will be interesting to see if these people are there then.

Enjoy, Bansko is fabulous
