Raynards disease / phenomenom

I have been skiing a couple of times and would dearly love to come back to Borovets again but this summer I found out that I had Raynards. This is where at the slightest hint of anything cold all my extremities go icy and they turn a grey colour and then sometimes black as the blood supply is cut off.
Does anyone else have this and do they have any ideas that combat it to enable them to go skiing.

Hi Zedee,
Just done a quick search on Raynards....not nice at all!
There is mention that many people with this disease have not been tested for Celiac.
It also points out that by taking the usual precautions Celiacs take can help people with Raynards.

I used to work in a golf club and they sold them in there for the golfers in winter so i bought about a dozen of them. They are called "Hand Warmer" and you get two in a pack (obviously - for both hands). I can't see a makers name or anything but the address on the back is Mycoal Warm Packs, etc etc. To be honest, i think you can get them on ebay as well. Anyway, hope that helped.

re: Raynards disease / phenomenom

Thank you for the advice Steff, I have used these pads but they need to be reactivated after each go which would put a huge weight on air luggage and I know that there are battery powered ski gloves on the market that also keep hands warm but it is not only my fingers that go but also my feet.
Does anyone use these gloves and how good are they.

Have you tried the heat pads that you activate for heat. Once used you boil them like an egg ready for use again. We have quite a few but I suppose you need constant warmth.

You can also buy soles that are heated for your boots, could give them a whirl to get you back on the slopes too. Hope you have success!

Anyone know where these heated inner soles are to buy and how do they work.
I have got to get geared up before I book my holiday so I don't want to leave it too late.

Richard.

re: Raynards disease / phenomenom

My mum although she doesnt suffer from raynards has heated boots, although these would mean you would have to buy new boots.
They have a small battery back which clips on the back of the boots and so they say last up to 8 hours.
Il have a check on the make of the boots but im sure we got them from ellis bringham in milton keenes.

My cousin has just recently been diagnosed with raynards so we have been looking at a few ideas to keep her warm so she can come up the mountain with us.
