1st Skiing hol - Borovets

Hi everyone,

I have just booked my first ever skiing hol for jan 09 and have chosen Borovets for the cheapness, ski school n nightlife.

Does anyone have any tips for a 1st timer, like ski essentials 2 pack, currency, r there any cheap transfers from Sofia?

Also haven't booked a ski pack yet, need lessons, lift pass n equipment, does anyone know where to get any deals on this? Or should I book in resort?

Any info or advice would be graetly appreciated!!!

Thanks!!! Very Happy

Hi Gem,
I have been 2 boro twice, going 4 the 3rd in Jan.
currency-take a bit to get going, then change therest there.
ski packages-if youve booked through a toue op, they r the cheapest. but i guess as u r asking about transferes you have booked all your self. go on skidvd site and look up a guy called fraser. i believe he will be able to help.

To pack - t shirts, if your hotel is anything like the Lion, it's almost sauna like. We had the windows open in January for fresh air!

Loads of layers for during the day.

Decent shoes/boots for walking about the resort in, as quite a few paths on gentle slopes that become treacherous if it turns icy.

Apart from that, an open mind to skiing and prepare to fall over! Have a great time - we're back in Feb

hi gem,

last year was our first ski hol ever in borovets, it was fantastic, we learn to board but booked it with tour operator first.

the mexican restaurant is really nice for eating out. cocktails id say chilli peppers. i was quite suprised as was not as cold as i had expected and on the nursery slopes could sit having a drink without ski jacket on just your clothes when the sun was out.

have a fab time

Def book a ski package before you go, alot cheaper than in resort. Hope this helps.

Hi

I went with a group of four last year to Boro for our first ever ski trip. It was excellent, but then we didn't have anything else to compare it with.

I think all lift passes and ski school is restricted to BoroSports in resort and I think it is cheaper to pre-book this as a package, generally they are highly rated but our instructor was not great.

The resort was good for night life and everything is easy walking distance.

Van Browns (Alpine Bar) is a nice bar for food and (lots of) drink. and happy hour is insanely cheap - A lot of the discussion board regullars seem to drink there and they're a good bunch. Go for Karaoke night if nothing else. There is a Karaoke bar which is alright to. Katy's do the best breakfasts and a Good Steak at good prices, the food can be hit and miss (usually miss) at the Hotels.

We stayed at Iglika Villas, they were functional, but cheap.

As a cheap place to go and to get a taster for skiing, with good night life, I reckon you could do a lot worse. We loved it so much we're all going back next year.

Have a good one.

I wear sunglasses, can't get on with goggles at all - cheap, expensive or otherwise. You need goggles for bad weather really, so take big(ish) sunglasses, and if you need to, buy some goggles there. I would recommend some spare gloves.... and a sensible bra, if necessary!

Have a great time.... Very Happy Very Happy
