re:1st skiing holiday with family lots of questions.
Hi Rebecca
WRT clothing layers are essential, a good thermal base layer, a micro fleece and a good insulated waterproof jacket and sallopettes. Aldi do reasonably priced ski ware during the winter as one of their Sunday/Thursday offer days, but tend to sell out very quickly, they also do very reasonably priced helmets and goggles. Don't forget Ski socks and good warm waterproof gloves.
We have been going to Borovets for 8 years now and love the place, our next trip is booked for 19th - 29th Feb
In the evenings the slopes outside the Rila Hotel are floodlit and full of kids playing on sledges, bum boards and snow scooters, there is 10 pin bowling in the Samokov Hotel and the bigger hotels all have swimming pools. (We stayed in the Rila last year and the pool was nicely heated, have stayed in the Samokov Hotel 10+ times and whilst I love their spa area I find the pool a little on the cool side)
Feel free to keep asking questions that's what this forum is all about

"Well made some progress today flights are booked whoop whoop we come out on Jan 28th - Feb 4th. Huge problem is outward flight is at 8.30pm and we don't land till 2am!. So firstly I have to find somewhere that will collect us at 2am do people really do transfers at this time?

We have also sorted out ski lessons for us all ☺. It's private tuition for the 5 of us, one hour tuition with instructor then 1 hour practical on our own which I thought was great idea 2 hours seems good amount of time. Ski center has advised 5 lessons which will be 10 hours each of instruction do u all think that's okay and enough? For especially me not to look like a wally on my 1st day? He reckons kids will be really good as they learn so quick and are very flexible? Hoping this will help my 5 yr old to help with ski school etc?,
Faced with a dilemma, reading all the review of the resorts and our news for night activities with the kids we where swaying towards pamporovo, but when we looked at the 4 hour transfer time and our flight arrival time, we would arrive in resort at roughly 6.30am would like to think kids would have a good sleep on plane or in transfer vehicle but knowing us they would be to excited to sleep. And ski school would start at 11 so we would all be shattered
So we are back to Bansko & Borovets. Out of the 2 which ones has activities that's kids could do at night like pamporovo.
Went browsing for ski clothes today. Saw gorgeous Trespass kids ski jackets is this a good make for the kids to wear? My husband has an animal ski jacket and matching trousers is this make ok? One thing I did see is ski goggles do we bring our own?. Does anyone have a list if items of clothing u need when going skiing.
Sorry for all the questions, I'm an awful worrier and want to make sure all is perfect for our first ski holiday but got to say I'm soooo excited been watching ski school videos tonight and it looks fab for us all. Only 10 weeks to go 😆😆

"If you have booked lessons? , you must of decided on the resort to do this ??? As different firms do the lessons at each resort
Horses for courses, so love Bansko , some love Borovets. I Take guests from one to another, for those who stay longer than 7 nights
Enjoy your holiday which ever resort you end up going to
re:1st skiing holiday with family lots of questions.
Hi emjay
We go for a week 28th jan-feb 4th Thurs to Thurs. The ski lessons we've booked are within the UK after people recommending us to do this before we arrive. Each week we have 2 hours private tuition as a family costs £78 for all of us which I thought was quite reasonable.
We have decided to go to borovets think with yours and everyone's fab info and fact transfer time is short for our first trip it sounds ideal

Hi Rebecca
Aldi also do a great range of ski clothing - not available yet but it won't be long. Very reasonably priced and great quality.
Goggles - always a difficult one. If you have them you probably won't need them. If you don't have them you will certainly need them. I would certainly make sure kids have them a they can sit on their helmets and then use them as and when. Maybe take sun glasses yourself and if weather is inclement and goggles are required you can buy them locally? I ...

Hi
Am a veteran of 20+ times going to Borovets and you will find plenty to do. With regards hotels, transfers etc contact Kas and Bobby who have replied to your post on here. They are registered travel agents and also have an interest in a hotel or do know people who own apartments to let out. You will also find them very helpful regarding lessons etc as Bobby is an instructor and has his own school. Have known them for more years than I care to remember and they are lovely people. Even if you do not wish to go with them they will still help and point you in the right direction. Might even see you out there. Also if you do pick Borovets and go in to Bobbys Bar when there you will always find other people to chat to and even ski with as you improve plus the children will be made very welcome.

Hi again
Also regarding your trip do not get your currency over here. The exchange rate is always Better in the Resort .As you are travelling so late just get say £30 in levs in the UK in case you need to get something as soon as you arrive but then take clean £20 notes and change them in the crown exchanges of which there are many but just look to see which are giving the best rates as it can vary every day.

re:1st skiing holiday with family lots of questions.
Certainly having some lessons over here can only be a good thing but either dry slope or an indoor snow dome kind of thing is not the same as being on a real mountain with real snow and possibly a few uncontrolled skiers or boarders falling down around you. Book some lessons in Borovets, it really will help with your enjoyment

I'm with Emjay you may have been better booking into a school to learn, you will meet new people who are the same ability as yourselves . My daughter was 6 the first time we went to Borovets and she managed all day, mind you we the kids were in one class and the adults were in another which was a bonus! By the end of the week the kids were skiing better than the adults, you will be able to take time out of your lessons and ski as a family if that's what you want once you've all got the ...

N&j thanks for all the info, I've been a little confused as what we should all wear for layers. So base layers is the thermal top and bottom sets I've seen then the fleece tops we all have these from regatta hope they will be ok? We've bought all the girls there coats and my husband already has one sonny left for me to get a jacket. Then it's salopets, socks, snow boots, helmets and goggles the lists seem endless but suppose 1st time skiing will always be the most expensive.

Snow White what do u actually use goggles for if it's more often or not they aren't used, and when do u use sunglasses? Do u use these sometimes instead of goggles?
Dbut I've been in contact with kas she's been lovely we are staying at there new hotel as it worked out better value and included bfast which think will be easier with the kids. Also hoping to sort out transfers and ski school for us all with them as well. Really looking forward to it and be glad to go bon a holiday with plenty of brits around to chat to thanks for the tip of exchanging money. Are there places in borovets to exchange money?
