re:1st skiing holiday with family lots of questions.
Hi Rebecca. Goggles are a must as you can't ski when it's snowing without them. 1st time skiing is the most expensive but you can always hire boots and helmets in the resort first time out. You seem to be pretty well organised so far though. Best of luck. You're gonna love it.

Spot on Mickey. This is Bulgaria and you'll need to be practical. With likely weather conditions that you'll experience you will have to wear goggles, sunglasses just wont do. Also for the kids, the goggles will hook over the back of the helmet and may even clip in which means less chance of getting lost.
As to the layers, it's all down to individual choice. I get hot so just wear a base layer consisting of 3/4 length bottoms, short or long sleeve top (skin type of thing) and proper ski ...

As to the layers, it's all down to individual choice. I get hot so just wear a base layer consisting of 3/4 length bottoms, short or long sleeve top (skin type of thing) and proper ski socks, not tubes. I may even wear two pairs of gloves obviously one pair designed for wearing inside the other and a helmet. I tend to be roasting in that lot. You will need to consider that whilst learning, you may spend a little more time standing around getting cold but you may be on a lower part of the mountain which is likely to be a few degrees warmer. Also depending on which slopes you are on, you spend a bit more time using your arms which in turn will make you very warm. Better being warm than cold however
I have experienced temperatures from between -35 to +8 in Borovets

you can google about layering.
You might want some sort of neck scarf.
Base layer can be the most important layer, as it supposed to draw moisture from your skin.
That is why stuff like under armour is so expensive.
Then you have your mid layer to keep you warm & an outer layer to keep you dry.
Sportsdirect has decent prices believe it or not. Especially for kids (you can get all in one things for less than £20)

Hi again. There are loads of places to exchange money. Look for the crown exchange shops there must be 5 or 6 on the high street. One is near the new Bobbys bar. I note you say you are out the first week of Feb. does that mean you fly out on the 30th Jan or the 6th Feb. Glad Kas has been able to help, you will find them lovely people but avoid incurring any punishment shots while with her. I will very likely be awarded one just for warning you.

Bansko is a great resort for kids and adults. PLENTY OF apres ski for kids including all the above mentioned. There are alot more bars and restaurants in Bansko with many traditional Mehanas and so much different choice. It is the biggest resort out of the 3 and is a town with alot of history and alot of places to see. There are hot mineral pools nearby too where you can swim in water 36degrees with snow all round the side. Great place spa and relax. Snowmobiling is great here too...... Bars ...

Bars and restaurants with pool tables, table football, air hockey to entertain kids. The ski road lights are on through the night in bansko so sledging can be done at night. They do adevertise night skiing but unless you can get up the mountain yourself to ski down the 7km ski road its limited as the gondola and lifts do not work during the night.
Skiing and lessons can be easily sorted to cater for your needs.
Hope not stepping on anyones toes but I dont see anyone posting about Bansko.
I love Borovets, I love Pamporovo but as i live in Bansko I have to also support my own ski resort
Im sure you will be well looked after in Borovets especially if you keep with Kas n Bobby to guide you. If you want to know more about Bansko Im here to help. And not forgetting the lovely Pamporovo Princess Pippa who can give you all the deals and hints n tips from Pamps.

Yes Goggles are a must when it is snowing, for sure - but if it isn't snowing the week you go, do you really want to purchase 5 sets of goggles that might not get used if it is sunny all week? All i'm saying is maybe buy a couple of pairs to take with you and then buy the rest in resort if the weather is inclement. I have seen so many beginners arrive with goggles and never use them all week. its a risk whichever way you play it. But you must have something on your eyes to protect against ...

Sounds like you are well sorted though, Kas and Bobby will see you right and I'm sure you will have a blast.
re:1st skiing holiday with family lots of questions.
We took our daughter to Borovets and she loved it. I highly recommend Hunters for the ski school. Sandra is brilliant with the kids and it was easy to meet up with her at lunchtime for dinner all together. Although after the first day my daughter wanted to have lunch away from us with her own money.
There was loads to do in resort for her aswell, which has already been mentioned. Although they are pretty tired after a day's skiing
re:1st skiing holiday with family lots of questions.
I ski most days and i can count on one hand the amount of times i ski without my goggles. They are not only for when it is snowing. They keep you warmer, you can see the piste better when it is sunny . They stop idiots poking you in the eye with their poles, and really they sit on your helmet and you forget you have them on! I even try to rub my eyes sometimes and just forget they are there. I assume you will have helmets as i think they should be compulsory, especially for children. It is ...

It is not how good or bad you are, there are some lunatics on the pistes and for the sake of a few kid. Best to be safe.
re:1st skiing holiday with family lots of questions.
Oh and just thought of something. I think you will be shocked how tired you and the children are after a day on the piste. When you begin it is great fun and you dont notice the hard work until you finish. Do not do too much on your first day ! Ive met too many people who do too much and cannot do anything for the next couple of days. Even if you are really fit, you will find new muscles ! Just a warning, have a great time
