1st time on the forum - Going to Bansko 19th Jan 2006
Greetings..
I've been checking out this forum over the last couple of months as i'm organising a snowboarding trip to Bansko for me and 6 friends. It's good to find a 'live' forum for a change. It's been very helpful, thanks all.
I have a few questions that someone might be able to answer.
1. Lift passes (i searched the forum but can't find anything):
Whats the cheapest way to buy lift passes?

1. Lift passes (i searched the forum but can't find anything):
Whats the cheapest way to buy lift passes?
I'm looking to buy about 6 x six day passes. I can't seem to buy them online (although the bansko website says buy before 31/12 for 20% discount...how?). I have a Bulgarian friend who may be joining us, would it be better to get him to buy them at the resort (he's well 'connected' in an Arther Daley sort of way...lol)?
2. Nightlife
A couple of us are DJs and I'm looking to get a few (unpaid) DJ slots at bars/clubs. More than anything else just so we can have somewhere nice to hang out, meet some locals and listen/dance to - what we think - is good music...lol. I've been in touch with Basecamp and they seem to be up for it.
Does anyone have any other tips/contacts etc?
3. Night time runs
What are the night time runs in Bansko like? Are they open every night? Are they any good?
4. 17 Km run
Is it true there's a 17km run from the top down to the gondala station? If so it any good? Any tips on doing this run?
5. Where is the best place to take newbies?
Half of the group I'm taking are new to snowboarding/skiing. After they've done a couple of days practice which, runs would be best for them to progress on?
6. Food
Is it worth cooking for yourself or are restaurants so cheap it's worth just eating out? I usually cook but am unsure about buying food in Bansko?!
***If Waitrose (not that I shop there anymore) is a 10, and Morrisons is a 3, what score would you give Bansko supermarket (presuming they have one)?***
Any help you can give would be much appreciated - start a new thread if it's easier - and if any of you are in Bansko between 19th - 29th Jan 2006 and want to have a drink or play some Poker (it's a snowboard/poker trip) feel free to get in touch.

I know a few mehanas that are top quality, but hard to describe where they are all I can say is if you find one just off a square at the top with a wooden daw that oges down some steps and has cowbells immediatly infront of you and the walls are covered in stfufed animals....you are onto a winner

I think so I never botherd as its part of the 17km run and the really flat part at the end, it wouldn't be fun for boarders and you saw a lot of langlaufers* *spelling) on there

Get your Bulgarian mate to buy the lift passes for you and he might be able to attain the frequent customer price.
Basecamp is your best bet for getting a spot.
The 17km run is relatively challenging near the top if you are with beginners, so break them in first.
Food is very good and you will find fish on the menus... take care unless it is freshwater (mountain trout etc) as Bansko is nowhere near the sea and supplies may not be so fresh. There is a large supermarket as you enter ...

There is a large supermarket as you enter town from the North, and there are smaller ones dotted around town. The ones up Pirin Street are small but well stocked with all you will need.
Oh yes, and there's a couple of Casinos but I'm not sure if they have any card rooms

as for runs if you friends have never skied before there is a nice blue run that runs from the first chair lift left of the gondla, sorry dont know the name of it think it was blue 3. when you get to the top of that chair lift turn left and you will get to it, taking them to the top is a bad idea some of the runs are stepish and a new skiier might find them a bit to much. this blue run is nice and wide and not to step great for building confidence a few times down that and they will be fine.
