1st timer

Hello,

This xmas holiday my wife and I are considering a skiing holiday for the first time. We are leaning towards Bulgaria as it would appear to be the most economical destination, and Borovets seems to have everything a beginner would require.

Would you suggest we hired our ski clothing in UK and take out there? or hire it there?

I know nobody can predict the weather but I am wondering what the weather conditions are usually like for this resort around 26th December to 2nd January ...

Thanks for any advice you could give us...

Hi there
I would actually suggest buying your clothing. If you go to Decathlon or H&M or even Adsa you will find clothing very cheap.
I would hire the equipment like ski's, boots, helmet and poles with your tour operator before you go.
I love Boro, it's a great place for 1st timers although I have now been back 8 times.
Everyone is great and it's a relaxed atmosphere. No ski snobs in Bulgaria either.
Have a great time you will thoroughly enjoy it.

re: 1st timer

If you are first timer hire a beginners ski package through your tour operator as it works out far cheaper and you get all you need apart from clothes. All you then need to purchase is a pair of ski trousers and a jacket for which there is no need to pay a fortune as has been said on this site. All you need then is plenty of layers of clothing ie jumpers t-shirts etc to go on underneath. finally shoes /trainers or boots with good grips on the soles for going out at nights and a warm pair of ...

Hi Paul
I'm an English Ski instructor here in Borovets, and it is an excellent choice of resort for beginners and families. Above advice is spot on. An alternative source that we used the first time was to buy ski clothes in Charity shops. Probably can't get everything at quality but it saves a packet on whatever you can find. Skis, ski boots, poles lessons etc you've got plenty of choice, from your tour operator if you've booked with them to independent ski schools if you're travelling ...

Skis, ski boots, poles lessons etc you've got plenty of choice, from your tour operator if you've booked with them to independent ski schools if you're travelling independently, taking Easyjet without the full package etc. Email me if you do need any help with this and any accomodation, transfers, equipment or lessons. Have a great time here in Borovets.

Borovets is a good choice for a first time holiday. As for clothing we found www.skiwear4less.co.uk was a good place to start looking. we were lucky enough to have one of their retail outlets close buy and they seemed to have lots of bits and bobs that didnt always feature on the website. TK Maxx (I hear stock is starting to make an appearance now) is also another alternative and dont forget Lidl and Aldi (no stock in evidence yet but it will come) who also provide decent affordable ...

I hope you have a great time, I am just worried you are going a little early in the season ! I hope there is snow even earlier, but it is touch and go.

re: 1st timer

Hi, just read your comment and offer for accomodation etc. I'm also a first timer and looking for a cheap holiday with my wife and three children, 2 teenages and a 9 year old. Would like somewhere quite central close to bars etc.
Thanks
