Hi Eyepaul.

Then those that rent out the restaurants, bars etc may find that they do not have any takers as there may be a large decrease in the number of tourists and they may have to close close down their premises.

They need to ask themselves a question, would it be better for them to have a reasonable, steady turnover / profit or to be greedy potentially resulting in no turnover at all.

I do hope that those in positions of authority and influence read these threads. I'm ...

Only places I have skied are BG & Canada, going back to Canada next year, only because like BG we really enjoyed it completly different to BG and unfair to try and compare the two, but could not afford to go every year unlike BG. Learnt to ski in Pamps and have had great holidays there, didn't think we would get away this year but done a late deal to Boro had great snow, and yes enjoyed Boro too so would go back to either resorts but would also like to try Bansko now. Yes year on year prices have gone up but you just have to look here at home regarding how much it costs for a night out here and how much you would spend holidaying in this country. I Would only do BG on a late deal because of recent years snow, but places like Canada etc seem to have a more reliable snow fall still so allows me to plan. Got to say BG still the most reasonable for me as rest europe to travel from newcastle does not come out cheap, I have looked so I could try elswhere but BG price wins hands down.
Canada's down fall is very expensive lift passes which puts price of holiday right up, I have found basic price of flight & room no different to some resorts in Austria/france but holiday cost shoots right up with lift pass.
Yes I will still go back to BG just love the place

Didn't go to Banff/Whistler -can't afford either! Not saying where we went , but the cost was equivalent to our last stay in Bansko.

We have been loyal to Bansko for several years - we learned to ski there before the gondola was built and have only ever skied there, so steve c, I think that I am allowed to make a comparison! Also may I add that I was not particularly comparing prices which most people seem to be concerned with here, but the actual experience. The ski hill we went to was similar in size to Bansko, but oh so much happier!!

Apart for some of the replies going off topic, your comments Pete are spot on. We have decided to give it one more trip in 2009/10 and see how it goes. If things are the same or worse then that will be the last time we venture to Bulgaria, bringing to an end a 10 year span :-(

Is this a board review or a resort review?

As I did not mention a single resort in the entire post, I'll let you work that one out. Confused

Cool

My assessment of the OP is that it’s more resort review than board review, Redzer. But as I don’t have many hairs left to split, I won’t. Wink

Economic downturn has had a huge effect everywhere, so let’s hope things recover everywhere in time for next season, otherwise it’ll be two Sundays on the dry slope at Tallington Lakes for us.

We used to dream of living in a shoebox. Try telling that to the kids of today.
