Greetings All
After our first foray this year into skiing, Bulgaria and more precisely Borovets we are now totally hooked and are planning our return visit in 2013.
Seasoned BG skiers advice is gratefully sought!
We are thinking of going DIY next year, so flying out of Manchester with Easyjet in March (rather than the 28th Jan this year).
What are the options for transferring from Sofia to Borovets?
Consideration is being given staying for longer than 1 week, have people done 10 days/2 weeks and would you recommend it?
There will be 6 of us again, we stayed at The Rila this year and found the catered option suited us although we would be interested in trying a different venue.
Everyone's experience and opinions would be respectfully received.
I used Hunters for the transfer (8 of us), equipment, passes and school. The transfer was very good and i would think that at what I guess is intermediate level skiing, the equipment that they offer would suit you too.
If you book early enough there may be an earlybird discount available.

re: 2013 Borovets Planning
We have just done 2weeks self catering dobe the following.
Flights Wizz Air Luton
hotel Flora booked with Bulgaria-Hotels 29 euros a night.
transfer with snow doves not a lot of difference than hunters.
ski lessons with hunters no equiptment we have our own.
Would we do 2 weeks again ohh yes we would we had a great time,we are looking at ten days next year.
I use Easy Jet from Gatwick or Wizz from Luton whichever is cheapest at time of booking. Use Snowdoves for transfers and equipment.
As for 2 weeks, her indoors gets the hump when I go for 9 days.
We have gone for a fortnight for the past two years. Its great and would always look to go for that long if possible. We fly with BA for convenience and alter our holiday travel dates either side of the Saturday to get the best prices. We have booked an apartment in the Royal Plaza in Borovets for one week and the other we are staying in Samokov at the Four Seasons Chalet. They arrange the transfers, provides equipment and lessons too for the first week Then for our second week ...
Hi Sarah,
We have gone for a fortnight for the past two years. They arrange the transfers, provides equipment and lessons too for the first week Then for our second week I hope to book lessons through Kas and Bobby in their new venture.
In march next year providing there is reasonable snow there will be plenty of choice for ski hire and lessons.
Don't get stuck with the smaller companies as Hunters as the choice is obviously less the flexability to place you in the right group is less and you get stuck to have to eat for lunch in One or two places on the slopes or at base because that is what is done by all of the ski instructors and tourists are forced to oblige daily.

Go for the main suppliers where the ski hire is bigger and the gear better.

Good you have made your choice of a place but show Common sence
Don't rush it yet cos it could be an opposite to what you have experienced this season as regards The snow.
Records snow falls don't happen twice in a roll you know.
Obviously BoroSports is the main ski hire provider but can you honestly say their gear is any better than Hunters? I kept a beady eye out this year at people on Borosports lessons and did not see one bit of kit I would have said was significantly better than what I had from Hunters. Of course those in lessons are not likely to be given top gear and the might have been using hotel linked kit but the observation still stands.

Hey Mr.M,

I would like to use more technical skis next year as apparently I will notice the difference and to be fair Hunters probably don't really do them. Is there anywhere that I could hire almost new good skis? I would guess that most places will be providing skis from the hire ranges offered by the manufacturers and you are not going to get a ski that you would buy for yourself, unless you know any different.
