So the word is out
James Hughes has announced the inaugural endurance race in Bulgaria to be held within the 3 mountain ranges around Bansko.
Nigel "the Captain" Morgan (MTB Bansko) has devised a truly awesome 120km completely off road course designed to test all entrants. More information will be announced in the coming days/weeks including registration details.

re: 3 mountains ultra MTB Race
If I was to try to bike ride 120 k, off road in the mountains in one day, the support I would need would probably be an ambulance. And if I made it to the end I would ned lots of these
HAHAHA, I know what you mean, but we have to do it the Captain has told us
Joking aside this is a fantastic coup for Bansko as this is the longest race at this moment in time anywhere in Bulgaria and now with Specialized offering support for this and future events it will continue to develop the MTB scene here in BG.
Must say after Steve's outing Sunday he is in panic mode thinking what am I doing?? He has entered and he will get round with no training what so ever for XC this summer. But we have been busy and is that is good.
I was reasonably confident in completing the event based on the distance.... but.... now having ridden just 30% of the course, and the climbs involved, it now seems quite daunting... 120km seems attainable if limited to easy terrain, but with nearly 4000m of climbs within the course, and not having the restbite of lazy downhill sections (some are harsh) it is going to be a real test

My strategy is to conserve as much energy as possible, and to pace based on what i know of the course. I still see it being around 10 hours, maybe more, if i can keep hydrated and fed... I can see myself if i make it cycling back in the dark, so lights will be a thought... i also have serviced and replaced virtually every part on my bike, something sadly i cannot do to myself, legs would be the first upgrade
On another note.... the route posted above has changed due to landslide on one of the downhill sections. Anyone who is entering if they can go to the website they can download the updated route
