Advice on boarding

After a bit of advice really,

I have a knee injury at the moment and dont want to stress it too much, what would you say gives less stress on your knees, boarding or skiing ?
( I am currently a level 4 skier, if not better Wink )

Thanks..... Booze

re: Advice on boarding

if you can ski and not board I would go with the skiing, as might be easier on your knees as you know what your doing. As for which is easier if you are good at both i have no idea. Confused

re: Advice on boarding

Hi Simon
been an x skier and had two knee jobs i would definately say boarding is easier on the knees!only one problem you end up with a sore arse for a few days so i would recomend impact shorts oh, and don`t forget wrist guards, its easy to catch an edge when learning and go hands first down the mountain.
Come on over to the dark side!

I am with you on that MJ!!

My knees are battered, and this is the main reason for me boarding!!

Skiing wreaks havoc on yer knees!!

Benn,
I'm shocked, you a boarder.

Repent the dark side young obe-one, tea tray riding is not for the gedi, remember two is allways better than one, unless it's an infection.

re: Advice on boarding

Thanks for the constructive advice folks, still not sure which way to go but its all taken on board.
I will think about it over the next few days but reckon I might end up skiing for the first morning/day and see how the "well supported" knee holds up.
Will definately give boarding a try if only just a taster unless I damage my knee in the first hour skiing and end up on my arse all week in the Rila Sad roll 22nd Booze

re: Advice on boarding

I'm not really anything to be honest Tom!
I've only ever skied once before but picked it up rather quickly to be fair. My missus had a hard time skiing so this time we have decided to try the plank to see if she has a better time.
I, however, fully expect to awesome very quickly mate as in my younger years I was a very good skateboarder.
If I am not though I will have a tantrum, launch the board into the woods and revert back to ski's!

Woah there. If you board you are going to be on your knees a lot!

Ideally, you'd never fall, but you're still using them as shock absorbers, but ... and this is the killer, if you catch a toe side edge you'll be landing on them with your full weight. (If your wrists don't get there first)

You may also be rolling about on your knees as you stand up for a run, putting stress on them as you strap in ... so yes, in motion, coming down the hill you use your knees slightly less than whilst ...

(Just seen pics of a mate back from France with knees so bruised they are black!! so on my mind at the moment)

ha ha, i agree knee's get a kicking if your learning..
even if your not once on your heel edge you use your leg muscles more so depending on where your injury is you could be better off on skies and relax into it and dont push yourself.
I have been boarding for 5 years and will never go back i love it and i am 45 now and will be boarding till 75 so watch out!!!!
whatever age you are it takes a while to get it!!! its frustrating but once you get it your stoaked!!!!

i was a big skate boarder and only 6 years ago when i was 39 i got rid of a half pipe on my property which i was a regular user off.
and yes it does help! you have a natural aptitude for leaning into corners and the preasure to put on the edges so you will find yourself picking it up quickly, you need to have a taster though but its rough get ready for bruises but your a Sboarder so you know what that feels like right?
