It was quite relaxed last week apart from liquids that they seem to have a real phobia about.
Anybody trying to get through security with water, coke, etc. were having it confiscated.
Silly thing is - I am a diabetic and carry needles and syringes in my hand luggages every trip and have never had to explain why I am carrying them! - Odd.

How oh how will I be able to Gel my hair mid flight?
You can now take up to 100ml of liquid/gel in your hand luggage sealed in a sandwick bag. For complete details go to the British airways site or I'm sure any of the airport's own websites will have the details. That will help anyone with kids who wants to take some calpol for earache on the flight, at least! Don't know whether it's enough hair gel for my lads thought!
This is how it was on our way out of gatwick last saturday:
You can take up to four items in containers that can hold not more than 100mls of liquid, sealed in a clear plastic bag, which they give you in the queue while you are waiting to get through security. You can take cosmetics, toothpaste, whatever, but generally no drinks consumed drinks (because the containers are bigger than 100mls).
Also the hand baggage is only one item per person, and the size limits is smaller than it used ...

However, once we were beyond security you can buy and take with you pretty much anything you like, (even coke!)with all our duty free we had two items of carry on each, but that didn't seem to be a problem.
Coming back from Plovdiv there weren't any restrictions enforced at all as far as we noticed.
I think as with most things security can change from day to day.If an airport recieves a security alert (not always known to public) the restrictions are going to be tighter.I would play it safe and pack it in your suitcase .A friend of mine recently had about 70 pounds worth of cosmetics taken away at Bergerac airport yet she left Luton with these in her bag no problem
