Billa are building a new Supermarket in Smolyan near the Venus Restaurant. They are working on it 24/7 as they want it open for the Christmas/New Year Season (this year!)
Also, you will very soon be able to dip your toes in the Aegean Sea as it is planned to have the Border Crossing into Greece open for the season as well
And, on top of that, Kaufland (?) are also interested in a plot of land to build a supermarket in Smolyan as well.
Whichever way you look at it it can only be ...

Whichever way you look at it it can only be very good news for Pamporovo and the surrounding area.
For all you doubting Thomas's surely one out of three will be fact
Helen - it is near the large Cathedral of Saint Vissarion on Bulgaria Boulevard. As you come down from Pamporovo into Smolyan, turn left at the traffic lights and follow the road past the shops etc. It is on the right just before the Municipality Offices and the Theatre/Arts Centre.
Thanks Andie - I was thinking about it after I posted, and thought it was down that way. I'll be able to do the shop when go down to the electricity office ! Oh what a joy !!!
mmmm - the way I see it there is nothing stupid about it.
I would have thought that those people who own properties in Pamporovo etc and those who go to there on a self-catering basis would welcome a bit more variety and choice without paying resort prices.
But we are all entitled to our opinion ..... you make your choice and pay your money
Agree Andie - Anyone who self caters and who has transport would appreciate a decent supermarket nearby. The Alaska in Pamps is so overpriced but they have a captive audience as most holiday makers don't have transport so can get away with the prices.
A decent supermarket in Smolyan would be a great bonus for those who go to Pamps regularly.
Where do you shop currently? Do Tesco's deliver ??
Thats good news - thanks Andie. Can't wait to go over and spend some time in Greece - it should be closer than driving to the Black Sea coast. Billa will be fantastic to go and stock up the apartment.
Correction: sorry - it is the Border Crossing at Zlatograd - Termes (BG-GR) and not the one at Rudozem that will be open for Xmas
Might have known I would get it wrong and I was getting quite excited imagining dipping my toes in the briny etc. Anyway not long to wait for Rudozem - 2012 is only a couple of years away and time flies by
