Almost Time

Well what seems to have been forever - finally my time is almost here and tomorrow night I will be tucked up in the Markony ready for my first day on Sunday.

Can I just say what a great bunch you lot have been this season. Lots of friendly banter, lots of new friendships formed in Bulgaria from this site and hardly any bad reports or posts that I've had to delete - well done guys and thanks for making it all so easy this year.

I will try to get online whilst there - but you know what ...

re: Almost Time

You have a fantastic time out there Pete - you deserve it after all the work you put in on here. Enjoy the wonderful snow and the amazing people. As you said - its god's own ski resort!

I'll try and help on any Pamporovo questions if I can.

Sorry Dave - didn't they tell you - Markony no longer has a bar Wink They have also over-booked the hotel so as you are last to arrive I believe you are staying in the old snowshack building. Hey Ho!

re: Almost Time

Pete, I know you will all have a fantastic time just to be returning to Pamporovo and the added bonus of the best season for snow in a month of Sundays. Mind you, if I remember rightly you had one of the best weeks for powder etc last year didn't you.

Happy Drink and happy Banana skiing

re: Almost Time

Looks like great snow at the moment. Our group got pretty luck considering we left it until Tuesday to book!

Any general recommendations on restaurants / bars around the resort Pete? I'm assuming from your name that you're a bit of an expert... Razz

Also what sort of exchange rate can we expect in resort? Will the hotel give the best rate?

Thanks & enjoy!

re: Almost Time

I've had some great reviews from the Italian restaurant this year. One of my personal favourites from this year would be the Gloria Mar. BBQ at Mourgavets is great value, Danmar best for pizza, Daks is the livelies place later on (but that's not from personal experience. My kids are too young to party properly.)

Down at the ski centre, the Markony and the White Dog are excellent places to go both for food and for an after dinner drink.

On the piste, Peters bar, La Boheme and China ...

On the piste, Peters bar, La Boheme and China Toni are all firm favourites of ours.

The tourist and information centre (down near ski centre 1) seem to offer the best exchange rate but the hotels will not be too bad either. Make sure you only exchange money where you see the crown insignia and NEVER change money on the street.

Hope this helps, I'm sure others will have favourites to add.

Toofly

I second SW recommendations - particularly the Italian this year.

Also at the Ski centre I would recommend Alex's Pub 1 - great food, great prices, and clean !!

re: Almost Time

oh yes, how could I forget Alex's pub 1 - They had some great deals - the steak baguette with onions and chips ALMOST beat my husband. The Irish Stew there was also amazing. Friendly staff too and very reasonable.
