Amazed

I am absolutely amazed that the general view is that Bulgaria is a nice place.

What a dump!
The place was filthy with plenty of unfriendly rude Bulgarians around, (my partner had to walk away from bein offered a fight on the first night).
The Olymp hotel is a complete dump - with fodd poisoning as their main course (got that on 3rd night), the slopes were icy and bare and generally needed to be be tended to more and the Ski instructor we had was one of the most onnoxious people I have ...

Inghams rip you off by charging £185 at resort which was never said when I booked and as far a three star hotel well if that is three stas I live in a mansion!
a dirty stained carpet, unmade bed no kettle or facilities in the room what so ever.

To say I was dissapointed is a complete understatement, the only thing that stopped me getting a flight home in the first two days was that only one airline went in or out, so price wise had the monopoly. Not even a plane wants to go there!

Bulgaria is definately some where I will never return to, The standards of hygiene were appalling and I was amazed to see not only people allowing their kids to eat at the hotel but also that people are happy to go back!

I cannot slate Borovets enough, if anyone has booked their with higher expectations than the worst hostel you have stayed in steer clear of the Olymp - and the little mini-market opposite the Samokov (I think the street is called Park Lane (ALTHOUGH THAT MUST BE A JOKE)... we got ripped off their after the shock of seeing our room on the first night.

P.S.
Don't ask for a glass at the Olymp bar as they use the dirty ones off the side, and drink beer from the tap as the ones in the fridge were a few days out of date.
No wonder I still can't eat properly - it's traumatised me for life!

Sorry to hear you did not enjoy your holiday.

Unfortunately we cannot speak for the Olymp Hotel which admittedly seems to get mixed reports on here. We were lucky enough to stay in the Alpin Hotel which was very good - clean and tidy. The Yagoda Village where we stayed last year was clean and warm but basic - we have stayed in far worse in the UK.

Inghams together with the other holiday companies have been conning last minute holiday makers all season saying you cannot book ski packages in advance. Several people on this site have managed to make alternative arrangements before travel. We ourselves used The Albena Ski School and managed to pre book through them.

We found the Bulgarians in general to be friendly and accommodating and geuinely go out of their way to make a holiday enjoyable. Some of them are rather abrupt but when you listen to them speaking to each other they sound as if they are about to commit murder!

Our children love their holidays to Bulgaria and it is one of the only places in Europe we have visited when my husband hasn't ended up with an upset tummy.

Again I am sorry you did not find Borovets to your liking and I can understand that this must have been very disappointing for you. I hope this has not put you off skiing and no doubt you will try somewhere different in the future.

re: Amazed

Two people I met also got food poisoning after eating at the titanic bar (on the night the football was on) so beware if you eat their next year!
Not sure where mine came from,
Katys steak house was good though - my partner ate heir on our last day - and Franco's pizza the only thing I could eat without being scared!

perhaps if we had been put in the upgraded room we paid £50 to upgrade to first I wouldn't have felt so sorely dissapointed - the upgraded room was lovely.

I will be going boarding again I think at some point in the future - I will not set foot in Bulgaria again though, I have never been so happy to see a plane meal in all my life on the return journey home.

Just hope the doctor who treated me saying I was unfit to ski might be able to help me get some money bank.
The doctor was good (by the albena ski school) spoke very little english but his examination was good and I did stop throwing up after his injection he gave me.

One more thing the swimming pool in the Olymp - ear infection just by walking in the room - didn't know water could be that colour.
Dont be scared to feed the poor dogs either, and never get on one of those horse & carts the poor horses look malnourished - people like them should not be allowed to keep animals.

re: Amazed

Did you drink the local water out of the tap, that might have caused the upset stomach.
Try self catering next time and you will be sure never to get food poisoning. Look on the bright side an effective way to diet....

Scotland is good for skiing i here you will be able to have safe british food.
