Not wanting to pay the extra £60 [return] to take a suitcase to BG ,i bought a smaller case at the size stated on the Ryan air e-ticket .Althought i was stopped at the boarding gate and told my case was too big ie. [fat] ,after taking out another jumper it fitted in the Regulation Ryan air cage no problem. This cage was made of pale blue 20mm thick tubing .

When i arrived at the airport in Plovdiv ,Bulgaria for the flight home i had the same senario BUT guess what, same case ,same clothing, same pale blue cage made of 20mm tubing but my case would'nt fit no way. Airport staff [Ryan Air i believe] insisted i check the case in and pay £30. Another reason why BG gets up my nose . Also if you hire a car from Sikon carhire make sure they know that when they leave the car with you on arrival in Plovdiv that you want it picked up in Plovdiv on departure and not Sofia . I was late for boarding as they were in Sofia waiting for me . Hence didnt get my deposit back but had to leave it in BG for someone else to hold for me . APART from that i had a brill holiday in Pamps ,plenty of snow ,plenty of beer and Rakia and good company due to meeting Arron,Dona Andie and moany Mark lol. Cheers guys i had a great night at the Castle.
Good to meet you too Nigel and I enjoyed the challenge of 3 green drinks and am very proud I survived and was still standing (just). Pmsl at how the nickname "moany Mark" stuck
Easy jet at gatwick fionas hand luggage case was 1 inch to big so they made her throw it away and buy a smaller case.. Yet i had the same case with no problems..
Pete, I agree with Nigel having experienced it myself and I am sure so have many others. If the rules for Ryanair 's size of carry on baggage is ok in UK then why not here in BG.
Speaking as someone who owns properties in BG, and not as a holidaymaker, I think Nigel is referring to the bureaucratic system and the way of doing things here in BG . It's bloody frustrating at times but we still love the place.
Makes me laugh... everyone bought from English salesman but it's BG that get it in the neck!!! Not the english countrymen that people bought from and listened their sales pitches and lies..... but no it's Bulgaria's fault when things go wrong!!
At every airport I have had so much more help with my 2 year old daughter from Bulgarians than I got from my own countrymen back in UK who just ignore or leave you to it.
Andie - Bulgaria and Bulgarians have nothing to do with how Ryan Air run their business. I am sure the staff were only doing what they had been told to do by their employers.
Pete, point taken. And Muffy, its got nothing to do with the English salesmen. It is the BG sytem I am talking about. It is so difficult to get a straight forward answer to a relatively simple question sometimes. Fortunately I have my "BG man who can" to do all my asking for me.
And if you come out with a bag of a certain size and weight, without it being a problem when you leave the UK, where is the logic in being told it is too large or oversized on your return.
Hear Hear !!Andiie.
Dont get me wrong ,i love Bulgaria but everytime i come here it cost me more money than antisipated .
Bulgaria should get it in the neck Pete because its the Bulgarians that made the "cage "smaller than the one in the UK [obviously to make some cash on the side ] and it wouldn't happen elsewhere that you get a car dropped off to you in Plovdiv and then expect to get picked it up in Sofia. Also ,,whilst there in BG ,i go to my bank F.I.B. to draw out £200 from my account and find i owe £236 instead. Apparently i owe this as "bank charges "for the years 2008-2009-2010,, company bank accounts that i never ever use. Apart from not knowing that i was incurring these charges ,why wasent i told on my earlier visits to the bank that i owed them . As i said it can only happen n BG.[BTW,i closed the 2 accounts but had to pay the outstanding charges and an extra 1 Lev even to do that] Time they get theirselves sorted out and bring BG up to date with the rest of Europe .
Anyway rant over and whats this got to do with skiing anyway . .
Oh also ,bought a sandwich and a coffee on the Ryan Air flight home and got charged £9.20 !!!!!!!!! Gave him [i think it was a him} £10.20 and he turned up 15 mins later and said he can't find a Pound piece and gave me a Euro instead . I had to laff tho.
He made up for it later and brought me an In flight magazine to read that was so "Dog Eared" and dirty i think he'd found on the floor somewhere .Almost made me want to fly with BA!!! ALMOST>
