Almost ready to book 2009. Will be in Pamporovo late Feb but considering La Thuile in Italy for Jan.

Hi,

Ive been mate all be it a few years ago.Good sking, great food, high up, so very snow sure. You can ski into France on youre lift pass to, ' always eat on the Italian side though' better food at a cheaper prise. Like most of Italy its very family orientated,Apres ski is not really a thing the Italians are into, so if its a good knees up youre after better looking elsewhere.

Cheers.

Thanks for the replies all - sounds good to me. La Thuile for the skiing - Pamporovo for the nightlife. PERFECTION. Razz

Hi Pete,

Went to La Thuile in 2007 - we chose it purely because it is a high altitude resort (remember 2007 was a dodgy snow year!). However, once we arrived we realised we had made a good random choice !
It's a smallish resort with minimal restaurants and pubs etc - but where it excels is the skiing infrastructure / investment- for such a small place there is a great gondola, loads of lifts and runs AND none are every too busy!

As you would expect with high altitude it tends to get very cold up on the slopes (minus 20 with with the wind-chill last year at times) but the pistes are generally traffic free.
It's twinned with La Rosiere (France) and you can lift / ski over into France (and vice-versa) but remember to give yourself plenty of time to catch the last lift back (we cam perilously close last year!)
Accomodation-wise we stayed at the Planibel Apts which were fine and had all we needed for a week's stay. This is joined to the Planibel Hotel and for about 25E you can use the pool / sauna / gym etc for the week. Best thing though is the fact that it a couple of minutes walk to the gondola!

Cheers! Very Happy

Hi Pete

Went to La Rosiere this year and skied across to La Thuile, It was great, lifts and Gondola excellent, snow terrific, after going to Pamps for the last 15 years, it was the first time to go elsewhere, La Ros was great, similar prices to Pamps, the Italian side was cheaper than France, but good fun getting across from one to another, plenty of runs for a week, and the resorts are both clean friendly and have reasonable night life, more upmarket than Pamps, we really enjoyed it and ...

I'm sure you will enjoy it, hope it doesn't stop you going back to BG though it has US!!

re: Anyone Been To La Thuile?

We were also been looking at La Thile, but been advised by some-one in the Know that La Rosiere is the best bet due to La Thuile being north facing. Might be a little cold and miserable in January ?
