re: Anyone been to Italy/slovenia?

I have skiied in Claviere, Prato Nevoso and Aprica in Italy. They all had fantastic snow when I went and the range of skiing is superb. Italy is not that expensive as long as you hunt out the local bars and happy hours. The food in Claviere and Prato was outstanding, Aprica not quite so!! The pistes are really well looked after and are lovely to ski on first thing in the morning when none of the locals are out. Go for it, it is very different from Bulgaria. Nothing like trying something new!!

If you want to go to Slovenia, try Kranjska Gora. Prices are good. It is in the Alps and the language is similar to Bulgarian but people are a lot more civilised - no rip offs, cultured atmosphere, etc. You will not be disappointed. Balkan Holidays and other operators offer good packages there.

If you are asking about Livigno, then yes.
You can check out the historical snow on the Skiclub website.
If you can stand the transfer then I would say go for it!

Mid March onwards, for good snow look for hi-altutude resorts with extensive snow-making, Livingo is skiable til mid April.

Have skiied a lot in Italy and the price varies enormously depending on which resort. Just got back from Italy (Pila and Creavacol) and would say that it is much cheaper than Borovets (went there at Xmas) when all is considered. Coffee, is around 1 to 1.5 euro on the slopes, a snack lunch is between 2.5-5 euros. At no time did I ever feel that I was being ripped off. Courmayeur just up the road is generally more expensive.

The lift pass is marginaly dearer in Italy, but the pistes are absolutely immaculate. Overall, I would consider Italy to be by far the better value.

re: Anyone been to Italy/slovenia?

I guess the slovenia is close to Slovakia and it was hoorible. Quees were packed with Russians and locals which tried to do anything to get pass you. Nerve wrecking! Nobody maintains the pistes. Lifts were from from the 80's and in one of the gondolas we saw a sticker "Antwerpen 89". Everything was really cheap but the people at quees ruined our trip... Dont recommend

re: Anyone been to Italy/slovenia?

We often fly to an Italian airports served by Ryaniar and hire a car and drive up. Some hotels will arrange to pick u up. Prices are v cheap in these resorts you reach independently, Italian resorts served by the tour ops are a little busier but the craic there is better. The snow is fantastic at mo, snow depths of between 2 and 5 metres

I've skiied the Dolomites in Italy, think it was end or March, beginning of April. Plenty of snow up high and very hot there. This was about 10 years ago, I think the lift passes were quite expensive. Stayed just out of Cortina at Chime bel Passe(?) hotel, quite a nice place good food but a bit isolated area, don't miss the ski bus home! It was Easter and quite busy, also some things weren't open on bank holidays.

Been to Slovenia, but not for the skiing. Stayed at Bled in Park Hotel overlooking the lake, very beautiful but quite poor service. The ski resort there looked quite small with not too many runs, the town was quite pleasant although fairly quiet. Very scenic area.

re: Anyone been to Italy/slovenia?

Was in Kransjka Gora Slovenia 03/01/09 for first time. Well impressed resort was super, conditions excellent. It is very much a family orintated resort geared for intermediate skiers, runs are similar in difficulty to Pamps. the town is small but spotless as are the restaurants and Toilets.( no charge to use them either) maybe Pamporova could send someone to take a look at how it can be done! It has all the charm of Bulgaria but certainly much better facilities. I had been to pamps for the previous 2 seasons so believe i am qualified to make these comparisons. Slovenia is about 15 - 20 percent more expensive but you get what you pay for in life. Would love to return to Bulgaria but having been to Czech Republic last year as well i certainly think Bulgaria needs to up the ante if they are to attract skiers back. again Spindle Ruv Mlyn in CZ was very impressive and value for money.
