April Skiing

Hi Folks, my brood and I are hoping to steal a last minute weeks skiing 1st week of April. Any suggestions/advice re best place, not charging the earth. Austria not looking too bad except lift/ski hire prices much too high.

re: April Skiing

We're going to Val Cenis in French Alps. Very cheap...£167pp (4 people sharing) and that includes free lift pass. £144 return snow coach (which means 8 full days skiing). It's a very traditional village and much cheaper in resort than the main French resorts. North facing slopes with a very good snow record for that time of year according to SCGB. (Appartment booked with Snowtrex)

All reviews that I've read about Val Cenis have been good.

I hope this is helpful...can't wait now.

We are hoping to get to Bansko that week but found Sauze d'oulx Italy to be very cheap this Jan.

re: April Skiing

you would have to be absolutely mad to go skiing in bulgaria in april. way too much of a risk and you could spend money and not get any worthwhile skiing if any skiing done at all. Check online, you can get to the alps at this time of year for cheaper or same price as bulgaria

re: April Skiing

agree with john, people here have been talking of operators not booking that late in the season for bulgaria
conditions can be iffy even at peak season.

John - I went to Bansko last April (5 April) and had a great time. I had been out a couple of weeks before though and knew the conditions were good/had seen the fresh snow/knew more had dumped - would never book it far in advance but as I knew the conditions were good and I was able to go, I did.

The resort was virtually deserted with some shops closing and the ice rink had melted for example but that did not bother me - I went for the peaceful skiing (empty slopes), the Spring sun and ...

Apart from Balkan the other tour operators generally stop end March. As it is, I travel independent so this no issue to me. Bear in mind I went the first week of the Easter 2 week half-term, I picked up an EasyJet flight 'cheap as chips'. With the late snow in Bansko this year I may repeat a trip this April - off on 7 March for first trip this year.

Mr W - I love Sharm!! Only skis you will need are waterskis!! Have a great time - I hope to go back there maybe next year.

re: April Skiing

Hi Muddyboots,
I've just returned from ValCenis, at what village are you staying ? ( we stayed in Lanslevillard ). Very nice place, beautifull and great skiing ( for a week ) . Sure you like it there, though it's very quite there . The skiing ( slopes) are better ( maintained ) and higher ( altitude) so "snow sure", but BG is more "fun".
- clean yor boots before entering.
Have fun there,
Nico.
