Morning All,
Quick update as mega busy. No new snow yesterday, however snow is still fresh, powdery snow and excellent conditions - the only 'weird' thing apparently is that the snow on the Marky runs, is a funny colour, "like sand has blown in from the desert" - sorry for that 'description' but that is what I've just been told!!
Misty in the resort today, but from half way up, there is no mist, little mind and good visibility - yesterday's blue skies etc have gone, but that's because of the thick snow clouds! Local forecast says it will snow later this afternoon and tonight - not sure if that will happen, but that's what they say!
So, in terms of conditions, nothing major has changed from yesterday...
The 2 blacks on the Rila side are still closed, as are Sitnyakovo 2 and 3, but Mussala pathway and Sitnyakovo Express (George's run!) are open again.
So, apart from the ones closed (above) conditions are:
Sitnyakovo Express - (BLUE) is open - OK CONDITIONS
Rila, Rotata and Iglika drags - GOOD CONDITIONS
Martinovi 1, 2 and 3 (Rila runs) GOOD CONDITIONS
Markudjik 1, 2a and 2b are open as is the nursery slope at the top of the gondola - CONDITIONS ARE VERY GOOD
Yastrebets - all 3 slopes are open as is the fon fon and CONDITIONS ARE VERY GOOD
And the good news is that the snow clouds have come to fruition and it is now snowing....!! Not that heavy, but started baout 20 minutes ago and is light to medium at the moment!
Thanks fr the update Kas, we fly out on Saturday can't wait. I have been checking the webcams and your updates everyday since we booked it. Its so misty today however I can't see anything on them
Hi Kas ive been last five years but never been to samokov can you tell me if its worth the visit to eat, are there any shops.
thanks kas i look forward to your reports every day. bring my 4 year old daughter out on sunday to teach to ski.
samokov is definitely worth a visit for eating. HAs some good restaurants like Kokuskova Kushta (the hen house) and also starata kushta (the old house). Bonita's pizza ia also nice and there are several others. Prices will be much cheaper than boroevts and quality much better.
I wouldn't really recommend it for shopping unless it is food shopping (ie: if you're staying in an apartment) as it's much cheaper in Samokov.
In terms of restaurants, I would say it is defo worth a visit - prices are half of borovets and the food is great. My favourites are Old House and Target, but I am sure others have their own as well.
Heapster,
I would highly recommend going into Samokov. As stated by mac, Kokoshkova Kushte is a fantastic restaurant, their Caesar salad is the best I have ever tasted, and it's far cheaper than the restaurants in Borovets and the food is much better. Also, the old house is a lovely restaurant and Target. Go to the K-Bar and say hi to Ken and Steph, lovely couple. Lots of shops in Samokov and also a market every Monday, there are some bargains to be got there. Enjoy.
