The meteorologists forecast spring-like temperatures for December. In ski resorts they mend the situation with artificial snow
Snow will cover the ski runs in Bulgaria as late as by Christmas. Throughout December, the temperature will be unusually high for the season. The first really cold spell is expected by December 10-12. Then the thermometer will measure 1-2 °C below zero. Later, however, it will warm up again. In mid-December the temperatures will be almost spring-like, said weatherman of TV-met Peter Yankov. Only after December 20 there's a chance for a thicker snow cover, he consoled the ski fans. To save the winter season, in ski resorts they cover the runs with artificial snow. Both Bansko and Borovets have the necessary equipment. Despite the "dry spell" the hotel-keepers feel safe - all hotels have been long booked for the holidays.
I'm going to Borovets 21 Jan - hopefully there will be lots of snow by then???
Hear this year-in-year--out. I have even travelled to Bulgaria in the past having been informed that there was no snow, but on arrival there was loads.
We cannot forecast the weather with any accuracy in Britain for more than a couple of days, so how they can expect to be accurate about snow in Bulgaria is beyond me.
I am more than confident that you will have plenty of snow by the time you all get there.
Like Pete says the forecast not an easy thing to do, and i too hve been to Bulgaria when it said there was no snow. Last year the snow forecast websirte said there was little snow in Borovets leading upto xmas. When we got there on the 20th Dec there was bucket loads of the stuff, bout a foot deep. Either the forcasters got it wrong or it snowed whilst we were up in the air for 3 hours I dont know. But dont worry, you have a wonderfull time. Sad thing is i am not going to Bg this year, And ...
