re: Balkan Airways planes

Well, last year we got nowt alcoholic - not even if we paid for it.

Fortunately we were prepared and took our own, couple of bottles of wine (with the cork part out as you can't take a corckscrew onboard either these days - funny, you can take a big glass bottle that you could brain someone with, but no, no evil corckscrews....)

re: Balkan Airways planes

We flew with Balcan last year from East Midlands and had to stop at Newcastle. On the return journey the Newcastle passengers had to get off at E/mid. The only free drinks we got wre soft ones.

Flew out on the 2nd with them on an old Tupolev, a sort of 'Trabant of the Skies'. Cramped and ropey interior but what the heck cheap holiday and only three hours. But comfortable flying and smooth take off and landing.

Returned on much newer Airbus A320, the latest in 'western' technology. Fine plane, however Pilot (or his computer thingy) did their utmost to shove the undercarriage through the floor on landing!

It doesn't really seem to matter what you fly on or whether or not the food is good. Take your own sarnies and beer / wine & whisky and enjoy the skiing in between the flights.
