Balkan Planes

Anyone know what the planes are like? Service etc... i've heard drinks on board are quite cheap (both alcoholic and non)

re: Balkan Planes

last year on the outbound flight, i had a friend who asked for a vodka. The stewartess said it would be 3 euro, he said not a problem, she then returned with a 750ml bottle of vodka.

He has since raved about bulgaria

re: Balkan Planes

But is it a case of needing a 750ml bottle of Vodka to get over the fear of flying in a Russian built Tupolev 154!!

The Tupelov is a legend of a plane - I genuinely gasped when I saw it draw up at the airport. Forget any other plane ride you have had!!!

Think World War 2 Messasmidt (spell check please) and you won't be dissapointed, our plane last year had just had a fresh coat of paint INSIDE!, the taps were loose and the seats were not the most comfortable, but guess what? it got us to Plovdiv and landed ok in the snow so don't worry, just drink heavily at the airport!

re: Balkan Planes

Well - they're better than they used to be. When we travelled with Balkan in the 1990s, the stewardesses were kept busy whisking trays of vodka in to the crew in the flight deck! The whole thing was like stepping back in time. Seriously though, the drinks are great value - last year little botles of wine were exactly half the price of other airlines - and twice as good!

Flew back from Sofia with BulgarianAir on Saturday. Plane was Boeing 737 but very cramped. Wine and soft drinks were free, but in flight meal in both directions was meat and cheese roll !!
