Bansko - Fantastic

Afternoon all
just back from Bansko. I have been for the last 4 years and until this year have been more and more disappointed. Not this year though.

Yes the place is still massively overdeveloped and as an investment i think i need to hold onto my place for a long while now. But the place is (in my opinion) starting to catch up. Yes the place is still massively overdeveloped and as an investment i think i need to hold onto my place for a long while now. But the place is (in my opinion) starting to catch up. Lots more bars, more supermarkets (some quite pricey) but the number of developments that are now finished (or look finished from the outside) were the thing that is starting to make the place look less like a building site.

Dont get me wrong there is still lots of building sites out there, but things this year look better than they have in previous years.

Went with the wife and kids and found lots of nice new bars (the Crown, Murphys, Harrys, bar zero) not particular good food though, but for somewhere to go for a drink after a day on the slopes other than the Happy End they are great.

Food in the Mexhana's are still better and better atmosphere, but at last there are more choice of bars.

Things are more expensive generally, but still never paid more than £2.5 for a pint (more often cost £1.5) consider this to Morzine where the cheapest pint was £3 in happy hour then £5 a pint after 7pm. Still dont think Bansko is bad value.

As for the slopes, the snow was fantastic - never had it better. Cant say enough about it - fantastic is the only description!!!!

All in all a great holiday, the place is starting to take shape (still a few years to go). It still needs a second gondola and needs the slopes increasing, but as for the things that are happening i am chuffed and cant wait to go back next year (in fact going to look at flight prices for easter!!!)

After saying all this - it is just my opinion. I am sure there will be as many people who have a different opinion. But give it a chance.

Anyone going out now will have great conditions!!

Enjoy!!

Hey Uptheowls - glad you had a great time - going back for my 6th visit in 2 weeks and love it there!! Bansko is of course developing and will get there in the end. I have observed its changes every year I have been - it is getting there (in - as is- the Bulgarian way) slowly.

Mell - Upthe was referring to pint prices in Morzine, France Wink Wink Booze Booze

Mell
yes was talking about the prices in Morzine. Prices in Bansko were about £2.50 a pint in Happy end and about £1.5 a pint elsewhere.

Kim - slowly slowly is the way - but at last things taking shape. I'm sure you will have a fab time when you get there - the snow is fantastic now and i cant see it changing in the next couple of weeks!!

Have a good one!
