Bansko 8th Feb (Flying from Edinburgh)

Hi Everyone,
I'm off to Bansko 8th Feb for 1wk with my daughter (12yo). We are staying in the Lucky Bansko Hotel and are both beginners. Any tips/advice on all aspects of a ski holiday are very welcome.....from where to get ski's n boots, what's the ski school like and start/finish times?(have booked the package with our tour operator)
Does anyone know if my daughter be in a class with other youngsters of similar age or will we both be together?

Where would you recommend to eat n drink ...

Where would you recommend to eat n drink and average cost?

Bansko sounds a great resort.....really looking forward to the experience......hopefully we will be hooked after this!

re: Bansko 8th Feb (Flying from Edinburgh)

I take it you are on the same flight as us with Balkan Holidays,if so you will pick up your lift pass/ski hire etc.
on monday morning usually in the Happy End bar. Can't tell you anything about ski school/hire as I've not used these.
Advice... Layers of warm breathable clothes, good gloves, hat, goggles & sunglasses. If you don't already have these try Aldi,Lidl or TKMax for good bargains.Sensible footwear for going out at night.

Bansko has lots of small resturants (mehanas)to choose from, have a look around and take your pick its all part of the fun.You can eat well with drinks for about £10 per head.
ps sun block is a must.

Thanks for the advice, yeah we are on the Balkan flight from Edinburgh. I've just been checking the flight/transfer time etc and looks like it will be late on before we arrive in the resort!
As we are first timers we don't really know what to expect but needless to say we are excited about the trip, If all goes well hopefully it will be a regular thing.
I've read it gets really busy at the Gondola after 9.00am is this typical each day?

Go to the old town to drink and eat, it is half the price. I am paying 1.50 a beer down there it is at least 3 up here near the gondola and the food has the same sort of mark up.

Thanks, the old town seems the place to go to eat n drink if you want value for money! I will have my 12yo daughter with me, do most pubs let kids in till a certain time?

I understand The Lucky Bansko Hotel where we are staying is at the far end of town. Do we have to take the shuttle bus to the Gondola? is it too far to walk? How long would it take to walk?

If you want to avoid the gondola queue be there by 8:30.
On your first day expect to spend a long time getting your gear sorted,if you are skiing make sure your boots are as comfortable as poss.A week in poor fitting boots is a very long time.
Don't know about your hotel but alot of them have shuttle buses.
Our 4th year in Bansko I'm sure you will have a ball.

Cheers for the advice regarding the boots.....no doubt I will still end up with blisters!!! Do we take the ski's and boots away with us at the end of each day or hand them back in?
When I finish skiing for the day I will need a beer or two to refresh me (and ease my poor blisters!).....will I get in anywhere with my daughter?

I personally have not had hire gear but have read on here that you return it each night which should leave your hands free for beers!
Every bar or mehana we have been in were very child
friendly. The Stratzite Hotel has a bowling alley and is also handy for the icerink.
Roll on the 8th.

Good news that we dont have to carry our ski's about...Phew! although I guess there will be a queue to collect them next morning before we queue for the Gondola! I'd like a beer or two after coming off the mountain but was worried that as my daughter was with me we wouldn't get in and served.

We were originally booked into The Stratzite Hotel, as it has the ice skating and bowling alley for my daughter, however a few weeks after booking, Balkan informed me that there will be an Ironman ...

Not an unusual thing from Balkan Holidays!
You will be able to use all the Stratzite Hotel facilities as a visitor.
Let the count down begin.
