Where do I start. We were there last week and enjoyed several meals out at the local mechanas of which there are around 100 I believe! I would say to you wander around the town centre and if one looks nice from the outside go in and I'm sure you will have a lovely meal. We paid on average about 30 lev for a meal accompanied by a bottle or litre carafe of the local wine. We found the people very friendly and helpful even if their english is a bit limited.

For a pre-dinner drinke try the Kafe Parfe in the main street up from the square to the left of the church. Half litre of beer 1.20 lev. Quadruple gin or vodka 1.40. Memories Memories.
Cheers. Enjoy. If I can help further let me know. We loved Bansko.
Re my previous message sorry I meant to the right of the church ie with the church on your left. Never was any good at directions!!!
Also in the mechanas if you see a speciality dish which looks a bit pricey beware it will probably feed a whole family!! On our last night we ate in one restaurant which had such a dish for 22 lev. We thought a little expensive but OK we'll go with it. When it arrived it could easily have fed 4!!
You must try tripe soup and chomlek. The latter must be pre-order and paid in advance. It is a stew with pigs leg. Zhulan (roast) and Bansko sudjuk (sausage) are delicious as well.
first be careful with the tripe soup, I was often in Bulgaria and eat nearly all and drink nearly all too, but no tripe soup called Schkembe and don't try Borsa.
For some ideas have a llok at banskbg com. I think the Dedo Pene inn is one of the famoust bulgarian restaurants in Bansko.
And the wine from the region, is good, most of them will be wine from Melnik with his typical taste. So one unskiable day will be great for a trip to Melnik, with wine degustation or to the Rila ...

Go to Dedo Pene.
The beauty of Bansko is in the authentic architecture and cuisine. It's a place to live, not just a vacation spot.Beware that Bulgarian cuisine never mixes dairy and meat(that is a toxic combination),so if you encounter it,that means the restaurant is not authentic,no matter what they might tell you.I suppose they have such meals to attract westerners. For example a Bulgarian would be horrified to have BOTH chicken and cheese in his salad ...
