I have been to Bansko the last two years and love the place.. however this year im taking my girlfriend who can ski but does not like anything too steep, she would be fine with the ski road back to town but i know she wouldnt get on to well on some of the *blues from the top, but i want her to be able to ski more than just one run!! so my question is does borovets have a better selection of gentle nursery slopes / blue runs from top down compared to bansko???
I suppose the Markudjik 1 blue could be considered quite easy on the top, but basically there is not a lot in it. Even the Mussala pathway has sections that could be considered a little tricky...
You say she could handle the ski road here in Bansko, did she try the runs at Challin Valog that could be accessed from the ski road ??. Also blue 1 that runs down to Shilligarnika ?? The connecting run from the base of red12 down to the middle station of the gondola ??

All of these are a very shallow gradient. Boros runs generally end with a steepish section, especially on the Yastrabets side. The Rila runs can be side-stepped by taking the family run which comes down to the top of the nursery area, but this cannot be really considered a piste.
Perhaps try to build her confidence a little with a little practice back in the UK, snowdome etc, and invest in a little personal instruction whilst here... she may surprise you
Thanks steve that makes intresting reading, think ill head back to bansko then all the better for me i cant stay away!! ill invest in some lessons for her.
Out of interest i have read a few things on here regarding school half terms etc, uk is around the 14th feb but when do the surrounding countrys half terms fall i.e romania, greece etc and do they add the pressure on the gondala and overcrowding in the same way as xmas new year and uk half term time does? i was thinking of departures ...

You shouldn't have to many problems at the end of Jan crowds wise, and to be honest snow wise, especially with 220 snow cannons on the mountain... The surrounding countries half terms and national holidays can be a problem, but normally for no more than a couple of days. The main times when its busy are Christmas/new year, our half term, and this season the World Cup event at the end of Feb...
If she is to progress , she needs to try more than just blues , no one will improve or gain more confidence just doing the same runs , if she can stop on skis she can ski any slopes , albeit at a slow pace ..... and if she can snowplough she can go anywhere lol
Good point. I should be ashamed of my cowardice!
On that note - Steve - any chance of getting a couple of hours from you as a guide? It's about time I headed off the wrong side of the mountain and I'd like to avoid getting lost (or buried!).
I'd be on my board I'm afraid, so I may slow you down a bit. Some time between Jan 28th and 30th? Or if not, when we come back in March?
Have you ever been down the couloirs? A website I've looked at describes them as "ranging from wide and ...

Have you ever been down the couloirs? A website I've looked at describes them as "ranging from wide and relatively easy to narrow and steep". Not sure what benchmark they're basing that on...
