re: Bansko crowds

I believe people that go to bulgaria skiing are just looking for a nice skiing holiday at a reasonable price, people that are staying at the kempinski are people that like to feel important an affluent but cant afford to live to that standard in other european resorts, stop moaning you are getting a lot for your money, the chavs you are describing are probably people just enjoying there holiday, pay the same moneyand go to austira you will be 2* b&b

OOoooh Mel - handbags at dawn!!! Lol.

No - I don't wish to feel important or affluent - I was merely making the point that it's a shame if Kemp going downhill as is a nice hotel and granted - at the mo - is supposed to be one of the best. I stayed there last year as a 'treat' as could afford to thru circumstance at the time. Actually had bit of a crap time. I stayed there last year as a 'treat' as could afford to thru circumstance at the time. Actually had bit of a crap time. Our room was at the back - road facing so no views of slopes - went there as it SOOO close to slopes and thought it would be nice. The swimming pool was really quite chilly - not the warm aaaaaah effect I had had previously in Perun. The jacuzzi is out of bounds for kids under age of 16. Now we loved the Perun and its jacuzzi - sit outdoors in hot water with a glimpse of the mountain and on a clear crisp night gaze at stars - is the best!! I took my son in at the Kemp (not realising) and was very quickly and abruptly told to remove him - much to my son's upset! and mine! Fair enough I guess with babies etc - don't want 'poo' in it (mind you that could be said for swim pools) - dunno what the reason but it was a shame. My son was then ill for the week so refused to eat - all the lovely brek and dinner I had paid for was wasted - we spent most of the time in the room.

I will not stay there again as have found the Emerald (over the road) (I wanted to be close to gondola etc) and it suits me self catering - would never pay that £££ again as Cam seems often to be ill on ski hols - grrrr!!! and as I said - not that impressed with pool etc compared to Perun. Beaut place inside, beaut room, fantastic bathroom etc but in monetary terms for me & Cam - it was wasted - shame really.

If we ever did go back to hotels it would be the Perun as we have happy memories of there and the pool is warm and the jacuzzi lovely but even that has changed now as we went last year for a swim and it is so surrounded by new build. When we first went there it was all alone, no Lion. no complexes all around so maybe you 'can't go back' (to certain memories I mean).

Anyway - point is - Kemp is WELL pricey and not just on about the Kemp - no one wants to go on hols and see fighting Brits/chavs/idiots - call them what you will. I see enough of that crap at home - hate to see it abroad and hate it even more when it Brits - most of us are fine but there are the ones that let the side down.

My ramble over for now!!

re: Bansko crowds

Kim, sorry to hear you had a bad time at the Kempinski, for the previous past 2 years we have enjoyed the hotel and have no complaints whatsoever, perhaps coming from West Wales we are used to cold water, but as older people we rather liked the fact children are made less welcome than in other hotels, perhaps holiday companies and the kempinksi should be more honest and state their opinion on child friendliness. Cool

Hi Snik.

Loved the Kemp - don't get me wrong - had gazed longingly since I first saw and thought "ooh, if only". Was thrilled to stay there last year - very nice. Main grumble on my part was my son was ill so we spent alot of time in room - now had that been slope facing I may not have minded so much but we had back room - in shade all day - not a great view (building sites - you know how it is) so was a disappointment. I thought the food was fab but again as son moany and ill - if I ...

I thought the food was fab but again as son moany and ill - if I did go to the restaurant it was stressy - cos wanted him to eat a little something and it just wasn't good.

As for pool - well I will admit I personally did find it chilly compared to Perun - maybe I am wimp - lol. Was a little sad Cam could not go in jacuzzi - he loves them and would have perked him up a little - he is 9 and not a baby. Nor do I let him roam around the hotel causing a nuisance as some have reported kids are doing this year.

I dunno - loved the Kemp - I really did but thru circs. it was money wasted. I then happened upon the Emerald which suits me well - self catering (like to eat out in the mehanas) and usually meet up with SkiDVD crowd, near enough to gondola etc.

Not slating Kemp - just hoping it is not 'sliding' if you see what I mean. Not a snob, not rich, not anything really.. Just enjoy Bansko and what it has - wish others would too!

5 weeks and counting......

Please do not think your concerns are limited to the decent hotels. I own an apartment in Mountain Residence 3 and in no way can it be described as decent....or described as a hotel!

This year, I assume due to the economy, the place has been littered with juveniles in the 20 to 25 year age group who think it great fun to come back at 3.30 a.m. each night banging doors, shouting, setting off fire extinguishers etc etc. That would be bad enough in any building properly constructed let ...

This year, I assume due to the economy, the place has been littered with juveniles in the 20 to 25 year age group who think it great fun to come back at 3.30 a.m. each night banging doors, shouting, setting off fire extinguishers etc etc. That would be bad enough in any building properly constructed let alone one (such as Mountain Residence 3) with no, and I mean no (I have had it surveyed) flanking or impact acoustic insulation at all.

Last Friday we had had enough and I confronted a group of about 4 of them who had the apartment above my apartment....they run away...they are so brave with a few drinks in them, shouting and blaspheming until they are confronted. ...then they run away.

My wife pointed out a much better ploy which worked wonders.....make just as much noise when we get up at 7 am.....they soon moved rooms.

The moral of this story, avoid Mountain Residence 3 at all costs, firstly is has no acoustic insulation at all and, secondly, Winslow are renting it out as cheaply as they can to mostly Romanians and Greeks.

Anyone who seeks a normal, nice, quiet holiday is mad if they are silly enough to book an apartment here. ...you have been warned!

There are many, many better options and you should choose one on them!

Not true Mel. I'm working class and proud of it. Not affluent and make no pretence of it. However, I do object when British idiots are caught swearing and drunkenly fighting in corridors, outside the room of frineds, to whom we've reccomended a nice relaxing hotel.
Similarly, I dont expect to find drunken idiots taking up all the spa facilities, to sleep of their hangovers. They may well be just people enjoying their holidays but it doesn't have to be at the detriment of other guests. ...

They may well be just people enjoying their holidays but it doesn't have to be at the detriment of other guests. Nor do they have to let the British side down. You'll find a lot of people who made the same points to the Manager.
