Going to Bansko for the first time on 31 March. Can't seem to buy a lift pass, equipment etc in advance due to ? re whether the lifts will be open. Should I be panicking? What is the situation re currency and credit cards? Can I use visa? Do I need to take Bulgarian money? Can anyone recommend a ski instructor?
Glorious spring here. I doubt there will be enough snow to ski by the time you come - in fact I read on another board that Ulen were planning to close the mountain on the 22nd March although the most recent blast of snow seems to have delayed that. Certainly get insurance for the mountain closing and bring plenty of good books.
Thanks Mat. I've got a bad feeling about this. First skiing holiday in 10 years and it's not looking good!!!! Was really looking forward to Bansko too. We booked our accomm and flights ourselves. Can you get insurance to cover mountain closure????
This was the reply that I had from Bulgariaski.com."It is still not known when will the ski season in Bansko end. Following the latest updates, it is expected the ski season to continue till Easter weekend (07 - 09 Apr) but it depends how much snow falls the next few days. Last year the ski season ended on 16th April".
DON'T PANIC! I have just called my Bulgarian contact in Bansko who said the lifts are NOT closing until 15 April. We are going out tomorrow morning for 8 days - yee-har
Thanks so much. Glad I didn't slit my wrists 10 minutes ago! Wizz flights were really expensive (relatively!!!!) cos we booked so late, and there is no way we would get our money back. OK. Better get my currency organised. Many many thanks.
Marks & Spencer were the best for LEV and you can find out on their website where their nearest Bureau de Change is inside most major stores. You can also order it on their website and they will send it to your home address. Commission FREE.
When you go out on 31 March, we will be coming home but have the next 8 days of skiing to enjoy. Just finishing off my packing now
