Im sure you guys get a lot of these questions, but.
A few friends and me are looking at heading to bansko in the first week of april. From what i've read there will possibly be a bit of snow, but will it all be turning into slush by mid-day?
Plus with the late start this season, will that mean less snow all through the season, or will it hopefully push the season back, so the late season is good?

I've never skied or boarded before, so i wont be fussy about the conditions, as long as i can slide a long for a bit, and have something between the rocks and me when i fall over i'll be happy.
So, considering im broke, and i will probably be spending all my money on this one trip, is it worth the risk? A lot of people i've spoken too have said to not risk it and go to the alps, but i cant afford that, so its cheep trip or no trip.
Richard,
It would certainly be better if you could go a little earlier, I would say beggining to middle of march latest, although there can be good late snow up to april it can be risky, i have skied the first week in March and the snow was melting lower down. Others have skied into april and had excellent snow.
Bulgaria can be easily affected by southerly winds bringing in warm air, that is part of the problem at the moment.

If you can wait until the last minute then you can asses the situation before booking, if there is a good base of snow then it should be ok even if it warms up, it just gets a bit slushy late in the day, and can be a little icy first thing.
Hope this is some help.
Over to you.
6 days and counting!!
Hornster, I would normally expect second week in Jan to be good, resort not to busy and good snow conditions, I am normally positive, but am getting a little concerned. Stil there is snow and colder temperatures forecast so fingers crossed.
6 days to go!!!
Ok, i'll put my neck on the line but..........
the last few seasons have seen some great skiing into April, last season especially.
I taught my son to ski this time last year, and he revelled in the slushy conditions after 1.00pm. We had so much snow though, the ski road was all the way to the town, ok, cutting up a bit, and at its last breath... but the top of the mountain was skiing really well, and no one around. All runs open, and some off-piste was accessable for the first time that ...

Cannot guarantee it im afraid, just keep an eye on the reports, and book last minute
Steve,
Yes i can remember good conditions last Jan, came first week jan, very busy, forgot about orthodox hols etc. This year booked a week later hoping for quieter slopes and lifts, always enjoy it whatever the conditions. Have visited myself in mid march before and had super conditions up top, but ski road suffers late in season, I love to come down each day that way, lovely relaxing cruise. May bump into you when I visit.
