re: Bansko looking good

According to Bulgarian National Radio the missing man is 28-years-old from Sofia, but his name was not reported. There is supposition for two more people caught up by the avalanche. (source: netinfo)

Terrible news!
They obviously didn't realise that the recent heavy snow and mountain conditions would pose a serious avalanche risk today.

I believe the boy is a snowboarder from Sofia, you would think they had good local knowledge, bit of a wake up call to all of us who venture off the pistes.

Very, very sad and I think it tugs at the heartstrings more when it happens somewhere you know. You often hear of them on the news but in other resorts and think "ah that'll never happen to me" - well if it can happen to an expert local snowboarder Sad Sad

On a positive note, a snowboarder was buried overnight in Bansko in 2006 and he survived OK so let's hope this story has a happy ending.

CryingThat is terrible news about the missing skier in the avalanche..... We have booked to stay in Bansko a week on Sunday... just booked tonight... spur of the moment thing... me, my husband and 2 kids (15 and 13) have never been skiing before, but decided to give it a go! Sounds like there will be plenty of snow when we go then! Any ideas about prices while you are there would be a great help.... thanks guys... Very Happy
