re: Bansko or Boro?

We were in Bansko last week and thought it was fantastic. We were at the gondola station at various time through the week from 8.30 to 10.30 on some days only once did we have to queue and that was literally for 5 mins. Would recommend it Smile

Bansko has better views where it matters, up the mountain. Much better resort for both skiing or boarding. I like boro but I don't get emotionally attached to ski resorts which helps when trying to be impartial.

Bit harsh JOHNSKI; Bansko = Milton Keynes, having just returned from a 2nd visit there, in 30cm off piste powder it felt more like the Rockies than Bulgaria, fantastic on the mountain and pleasant hillside eateries for lunch, ski road right down to the town which does have a certain rustic charm at it's heart, just a lot of new building going on, ambitious but not Milton Keynes. Very Happy

We been to both. I think a lot depends on the make up of your party. We travel as a family (2 under 12) & are restricted to half term week. Also we have limited interest (!) in night life. Because of these issues we would not return to Bansko. However, if we were not limited by the herberts we would almost certainly choose Bansko over Borovets as the skiing here is far better.

Johnski - Milton Keynes???? Errr - I think NOT!!!

Dappy - just curious - if with family and you do not partake in nightlife then why say Boro - from what is posted on the board about lively clubs and so on - then Bansko may be better? As I say - not a dig - just curious?

Hi Kim,
I only referred to nightlife as I recognise that users of this board have varying requirements from their skiiing holidays & I was trying to set the background to our opinion.
Key to this is that we travel in half term week with young children.

For us the major problem is the gondola at Bansko. The queues were horrendous, reducing our daughter and many other children (and a couple of adults) to tears. On two days we were in the queue for more than one hour. It was only when we gave up on the hotel minibus and started taking a taxi to be at the gondola by 8.30am that we were able to enjoy the start to the day.
Borovets was far easier. We were able to drop the children off at ski school at village level and then take one of the lifts.
I would stress that our opinion is about skiing with children in half term week. If we were choosing between the two resorts for a childless holiday at another time then Bansko would be our choice as we found the skiing more varied. Equally we would consider Bansko with the children if one of the hotels in the shadow of the gondola offered family rooms - but we can't find one that does.

re: Bansko or Boro?

Dappy,

Kempinski seems to cater very well for small kids and right next to gondola, we were there last week and families seemed to get breakfast and up the gondola by 8.30 no bother, very cheap with Balkan holidays. Confused
