Now without wanting to start an argument between everyone we were hoping for some info on Bansko, for the last 6 years we have been to Borovets but maybe in 2009 we will finally try out one of the other resorts....
Bansko looks to be worth a visit, anyone any advice? Also very keen to find out what the Apres Ski is like in Bansko
Try bansko. Much better ski area. Been to Boro 4 times but never looked back after giving bansko a go 2 years ago. Yes there's building work but not as bad as some would suggest. Put it this way, if you've only been to boro for the last 6 years Bansko will feel like an upgrade
Hi Colin..
Prefer Bansko for some reasons, like Boro for others. Banskos lift system is better, less pomas, and more options off the mountain piste wise, Boro now with a new four man on the top will provide better access to some great off-piste, but still suffers with the hump in the middle to access the Yastrabets runs, the conveyer is a pain and you have to be tramping to get up the hill by the top of the gondolar. Boro has its highlights apres ski wise but tends to be noisier and more in your face, Bansko is quieter save for perhaps Amigos, depends what you are after. Damo`s opinion obviously is pro Bansko, both resorts have there positives, try Bansko next season, Boro will still be there
I would recommend staying at the Lion Hotel it's about a 10 min walk or they have a mini bus that runs every 10/15 mins, very good hotel, clean tidy, swimming pool, food is your choice when I stayed there I found it to be good. Tip to beat the gondola que get there for 8 ish .
well worth the early start.
Heading back for Boro this winter jan17th for the hwyl, then a biggy for canada feb.
What ever you decide have a good ...

This is music to my ears as I too have left behind Boro in favour of Bansko for the first time this coming February. Staying at Emerald Apartments which is near the Gondola I believe.
Yip, it has to be Bansko in my opinion. I would also advise going either the last week of January or first two weeks of February as the snow seems to be most reliable and the prices are that bit cheaper. Avoid half term and the Russian school holidays as it gets crazy busy!
Hornster, long time my friend, you ole snow god you.
Glad to be hearing your Bansko bound, im here permanently now, give me a shout nearer the time and we shall go and murder a few wet ones......
ps. is the prayer mat out yet ?? you know it makes sense
Ive been to boro now 5 times and people kept saying try bansko try bansko.
So this march i went, lifts were better once at the top of the gondola but its not got the in the mountains and trees feel to it borovets is.
We found it a little more expensive although others say different, i wasnt let down by it but just didnt like the fact the town is very spread out and we strugled to walk around the bars at night like in borovets.
Id def go if you havnt bin yet but for me im doing the ...

Yes, it seems like forever that I have been on this forum but am glad to see that it's still thriving. As for my shrine to the Snow God...it never leaves my bedside and give it praise every morning and every evening!

Hi Steve C,
Yes, it seems like forever that I have been on this forum but am glad to see that it's still thriving. As for my shrine to the Snow God...it never leaves my bedside and give it praise every morning and every evening!
As for skiing, I went to sample the famed powder and extensive off-piste terrain of Japan last season and have to say that it is the best champagne powder I have ever experienced and given that there is chest deep powder every day makes it a freak of nature. If you can you will have to give it a go one of these seasons. I'm going back next season as I have really got into my off-piste and powder skiing.
Saying all that, Bansko is where I learnt to ski and is where I first experienced the many delights of off-piste skiing. For that reason bansko will always be a place that i will find myself returning to from time to time and will definitely drop you an email when I am out there next and we can enjoy a few turns together. I'm just really hoping that they do eventually extend and link the skiing to the neighbouring mountains that they keep talking about.
So, are you living and working out there permanently these days or is it more of a seasonal thing?
Hornster..
Definately living mate, been here for just a few weeks but after nearly seven years of visiting have decided to stay summer and winter. Am looking at a bit of land outside of Bansko with a view to building my home, not investment or quick return, a home for me and mine. Never done Japan, heard great things, maybe one day..
There is some serious off-piste here, gotta keep your wits about ya, but it would be no fun if it was easy.. Champayne powder, ironically and even after ...

There is some serious off-piste here, gotta keep your wits about ya, but it would be no fun if it was easy.. Champayne powder, ironically and even after spending twelve seasons in the high French Alps, it was in Soll one year in Austria, now that was a freak of nature, that i found the best. Set up a little transfer business here to keep the wolf from the door, looking at other things as well, we shall see....
Anyway matey, good to see your still about and obviously still devout to he who shall be obeyed, to mention his name taboo, just pray with covered eyes......
