Hi just thought I would ask for some advice. We are a group of 4 mixed level snowboarder looking at returning to Bulgaria mainly due to needing a cheaper trip this year, and are wondering whether we would be better heading to Pamporovo or Bansko.

ME and the girlfriend went to borovets a few years ago but did not really like it so have ruled that out. Been hassled in the streets bad room and felt a bit like Blackpool on ice. Bearing this in mind are we likely to find Bansko to be similar, don't mind going out but not crazy everynight?
Here are a few things I would like to know:
- Which has easier runs? Pamporovo or Bansko, GF like nice blue runs with some width to them, would she find this at either resort. I would like to go somewhere where she can get her confidence up on easier runs, but think Pamporovo might be a bit limited in size? Does bansko offer easy runs as well?
Other questions are:
- Which resort has more going on.
- Which resort is prettier I hear Bansko is a bit like a building site in places is Pamporovo less spoilt.
We are looking on lastminute.com at 10 nights half board. Prices for flight, transfers, hotel HB etc seem to be around 400-450 mark which seems like good value. Has anyone done it cheaper.
I am not sure where the flights go to yet but have heard the transfers can be very long. Any general advice / opinions would be great. Sorry the post rambled on a bit
Having been to both resorts a number of times I'd say go to Bansko. The hill is bigger and whilst offering runs that can challenge more advanced skiers/boarders also has loads for somebody with less experience. My GF is of similar standard to yours by the sounds of things and loves the big blues up the top.

Hi Michael,
Having been to both resorts a number of times I'd say go to Bansko. It's true up by the gondola isn't the nicest looking place in the world but the old town is so makes up for this. Pamps is a very pretty village but the hill doesn't compare.
As for nightlife you can can have a quiet one or go for it in Bansko but everywhere is new up near the gondola and there's more places opening every season (most of which are very nice bars and all serve pretty good food) where as Pamps is mainly based around the hotels. Food is well priced there as well and is a much better option than eating in the hotels in my opinion.
We used to stay in hotels the first few years in Bansko but recently we've rented apartments near the gondola and it works out a lot cheaper. For an apartment near the gondola expect to pay about £200 to £250 a week in Jan or March.
Flights with Easyjet out of Gatwick at the mo are around £100 return.
Transfers to Bansko from Sofia take between 2.5 hours to 3.5 hours, speak to SteveC on here about these or for the thrill seekers look at Bansko Express, they get you there quickly but do have you on the edge of your seat a lot.
I've just booked Bansko again for 2013, this time in Jan, normally we go in March and the weather is fantastic, blue skies and lots of snow.
If you avoid the school holidays you can walk straight onto the gondola in the mornings and have the place to yourself until about 10.30.
If you need equipment hire or lessons we tend to use Bansko Ski Mania near the gondola, they're very friendly and their instructors very good (and cheap), also well priced for servicing my ski's.
My highlights of Bansko are
Skiing Chalin
Hot wine in the cave bar
Traditional food in some of the great Mehana's in the old town.
Can you tell I like the place?
Anyway wherever you choose I'm sure you'll have a great time.
Probably Borovets is the best bet as not too much walking or catching a bus to the ski area as Pamporovo is.
Bansko is more crowded on the slopes and not best for young beginner.
Pamporovo is fine but long walks or waits for busses which will wear out the young beginner.
For minimal walks-Borovets

Thanks for the replies I am stuck between which to choose at the minute, I am thinking Bansko but don't want her to only be able to do a couple of runs. If you reckon there are half a dozen or so easy runs at bansko then I think that would win out, just know we have been to other resorts in past and bene limited to what I can get her down Jasna slovakia, visited a lot Filzmoos Austria, Donovaly Slovakia, Borovets She liked the run at the top. The apartments you mention are they 250 a week each? or per apartment. If so do you have any examples we normally go for something with 3 bedrooms if we do an apartment which can sometimes be slightly more tricky.
:O)
Thanks for the info, I think we are looking around going the 16th or 23rd of january and doing 10 days. Is bansko more snow sure than pamporovo, i hear bulgaria often gets snow later than some other european countries. Thanks for you replies so far :O)
The apartment price is per apartment, a 3 bed though will be expensive as they are aimed at families who can't use 3 seperate apartments. Have a look on websites that owners post directly with and cut out the middle man. I can't say the name of the sites on here though I'm afraid.

As for the skiing somebody with 1 weeks experience on ski's will be able to ski from the highest point of the mountain, up on the Plato all the way back to town via the ski road on easy blue runs, a distance of around 15km. There are also other blue runs to ski in addition to these.
I'm going myself around that time at it won't be that busy, the times to avoid are the Xmas holidays and all of Feb. Snow wise it's been fine when I've been before in Jan. March is the best month though.
hi dare i say we are snowboarders, so is the ski road back to town quite narrow or quite wide i heard it can be a bit flat in places but more interested in knowing how wide it is, i will look at youtube at bit though. I think Bansko is seeming like the more sensible choice, has anyone stayed in the hotel guinness that is an option for us if we do hotel package.
