Bansko run 14

Looking at the Bansko piste map there is a red run to the far right usually numbered 14 & named i think Ctzurna Mogila, I am struggling to see it mentioned anywhere in the piste descriptions. Does this run exist & is it open or is it a future planned run.

re: Bansko run 14

Due to avalanche risks it has not been used for many years. I think that there were rumblings that they may be working towards getting this side open up again but dont think they are there yet

re: Bansko run 14

so why is it still marked upon the piste map- I assume they still count it as one of the runs in the statistics though

The avalanche danger on Akidemika has been reduced by the installation of a system to produce an avalanche when the conditions dictate.. Due to the halt of development by an ongoing court case bought by enviro(mental)ists any upgrade to the lift serving the area was a no go, but the new system installed this summer should indicate that something is being considered in the future. Two other upgrades were also halted, the replacement of the old 3 man from Shilligarnika to Todorka, and the ...

If the area still shows and includes this old piste, there is no requirement to apply for permission to use it, perhaps the reason why it has existed since the new installation went in Wink

re: Bansko run 14

So what actual work did they complete over the summer which has yielded actual benefit for this year?

I recal someone saying red 12 has been fitted with snow cannons and the stream moved so this run will be usable all the time as in 2011 it was out of action. Did this happen or pie in the sky?

Groundworks were completed at the bottom of red 12 in order to culvert 3 small streams crossing the piste, and the installation of pipework for cannons, though i have had no confirmation of actual cannons being installed, i'll find out tomorrow when i ski it (its open)
The major installation was the percussion avalanche system, which when activated sends powerful soundwaves under the snow in order to set avalanches... The area as such does not threaten existing skiing areas, so we can only ...

The major installation was the percussion avalanche system, which when activated sends powerful soundwaves under the snow in order to set avalanches... The area as such does not threaten existing skiing areas, so we can only assume that this has been done to enable opening of Akidemika... The lift needs upgrading and the piste clearing, and this has been slowed for the reasons given... Hopefully the court action will be decided, and Bansko can then move on with improvements...

re: Bansko run 14

so the run (14) will presumeably not be opened for the season? surely they should remove it for the season then so they could claim they have 100% runs open... and on that point, does anyone know why the chalin valog 1 run isn't open yet?

cheers Smile

Ah I hope they dont replace the old 3 man from Shilligarnika to Todorka. At this stage Granny should be declared an ancient monument. Would miss getting my calves nipped by the lift and the long slow relaxed ride up the mountain. Start a campaign to save granny.

Red 12 is glorious, skiing as well as i have seen it in nearly 9 seasons... but no sign of cannons, the trench is still there, showing as a depression in the off-piste...
As for Akidemika, im sure it is open, if you want to climb up it. It has not been used in my memory since i first came out to Bansko at the end of 2002, and as for the Challin Valog black, i saw someone skiing it yesterday, its unpisted, and lumpy, but looked great fun.. turn, turn.. fall Wink The short section of black ...

Very Happy
