Just wondering whats going on in Bansko there is a thread on here about one of the hotels closing due to a lack of punters, however reports are coming back that Bansko has somewhat decent snow until sometime in April (Confirmed by Damo I sort of see where you were coming from)
So whats up then snow with empty hotels, I'm lost??????????
credit crunch and also there is an oversupply of apartments and hotels in bansko which doesn't help. Why stay open when most of the skiing is now done?
It is definately quieter than the last few seasons, especially with the English... More Greek and Romanians and i have even seen a French party (granted, it was Boro). Have also come across Scandanavians, speaking to them they are absolutely amazed how cheap it is
For all the negativity aimed at BG, i still feel it is about the cheapest place to ski in Europe, this has been backed up when talking to others of differant nationalities, the Alps are even getting pricey for them...

If it is any consolation, every party bar one has had a great time, and the only party to complain was about the queues over the world cup period (and that was only two days)... It should be interesting next season, i can see it being even worse than this one visitor wise
Blimey, honest advice
Ok, here goes...
There is snow, there has been a thaw in the last few days along with heavy rain, but the top of the mountain will have had fresh snow, be it quite heavy. If the rain continues into the night the temps will fall and the snow line will drop down the mountain.
It is very quiet, no queuing as such other than maybe the busiest time at the gondola but even then maybe no more than 10 or 15 mins.

Bansko is still a building site but more concentrated in areas around the top of the resort, the old town is virtually untouched, and now with the snow disappearing getting about is easier...
I live here, have no axe to grind so try to be as honest as i can. Check out Bansko cams for snow and forecasts for weather... http://www.skidvd.co.uk/banskowebcams.htm http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Bansko/6day/top
I would hold off booking for the moment and see what the snow looks like closer to the time - if not go to Austria, which is quite cheap, has good late season deals and has massive amounts of snow.
I am thinking staying in the Kempinski. Look nice place and close to Gondola. I am an oldie skiier. Like to have brekkie and head off the slopes at about 10 ish and then back for 2 ish and a bit of R & R. My wife does not ski so have to be in a place that can cater for both.
Will keep an eye on the weather reports and snow over next couple days as getting flight and Hotel seems to be no problem at the moment.
