Going to Livigno next Feb half term so will be a lot more expensive, but for a family of 4;
Flights £400
Transfers £300
Apartment £650
Passes £550 (120km with 32 lifts!)
Total £1,900 or £475 pp
Obviously some of this is based on the € so is subject to change either way.
This is also a diy holiday.
Love Pamps but felt the need for a change last year so went to Livigno and there is just no comparison.
What I notice about the DIY bookers, is that food is not included. Whilst I know food in Bulgaria is cheap, eating out every night in Livigno, etc can prove quiet expensive.
We have booked Bansko again for next February. We fly from Dublin, transfers included, staying at The Lion hotel, approx 600m from the Gondola. Its on a half board basis. The package includes Ski/boot hire, and Ski passes.
The total cost is E695 per person. I consider this a bargain, as The Lion is a nice 4 star ...

The total cost is E695 per person. I consider this a bargain, as The Lion is a nice 4 star hotel. The food there is varied and plentiful. It is situated quiet centrally in the resort, and importantly close enogh to the gondola. There is also a courtesy bus to & from the Happy End.
Looking at the person that booked the appartment above in Livigno, their total cost in Euro's is roughly E560 pp.
For an extra E135 euro, we get our breakfast & dinner served up to us each day. There are many facilities within in the hotel that we can use free of charge including a bar & swimming pool, sauna etc. There is the courtesy bus also. Also we have a tour operator that will work for us if flights are cancelled reroued etc.
I consider that Bansko has offered us better value. Am I wrong?
Charliemoonhead , he has booked for half term is yours? also double km's of piste and lifts, all depends on what you want from your trip if eating in a hotel everynight is a priority for you then i guess you got a good deal BUT and a big but your skiing a much smaller area and if it is half term big gondola que's.
Like i said all depends on what you want personally if its my main trip or only trip i would opt for better ski area with b&b or self catering as i dont feel the need to be ...

Value for money /= affordable or what people want to pay for a ski holiday
For beginners and just about lower intermediates a 3 Valles ski pass might be good value per km of piste but not terribly useful. They'd get better value for money just buying the pass for the valley they're staying at.
Charliemoonhead, we found the costs in Livigno last year to be about the same as Pamps the year before for food.
There are also good supermarkets where we bought food for breakfast and some lunches, drink is a bit more expensive, afterall it is Italy.
The real advantage of Pamps is the value in the lessons (if you need them).
As I said, loved Pamps as learned to ski there, but as others have said Livigno has nearly 4 times the ski area and suits all levels of skiers especially ...

Before booking last year we compared costs with Pamps again and there was really no difference.
I am not saying go elsewhere, but do not get blinkered into thinking BG is value for money without looking at alternatives.
