I can't understand where the complaints about food in Bulgaria come from - I absolutely love the food there!
I wonder if it's because people are going to the wrong places?
With that in mind (and so that I don't miss out on any hidden gems!) where are your favourite hotspots this year - and what are the recommended meals?

Hey Guys!
I can't understand where the complaints about food in Bulgaria come from - I absolutely love the food there!
I wonder if it's because people are going to the wrong places?
With that in mind (and so that I don't miss out on any hidden gems!) where are your favourite hotspots this year - and what are the recommended meals?

For me - the restaurant just 1 up from the "Ethno Restaurant" on Pirin St. Goose livers and Lamb Sache (2 seperate dishes). Awesome!
Then a restaurant recommended by Steve C (thanks very much Steve!). I'm sure someone will post the name, but it's the 2nd right after the church heading down to the old town. Pork knuckle was possibly the most succulent thing I've ever had, and could have fed a family of 4! Homemade bread was beautiful too.
Any others? They don't have to be traditional mehanas.
I really enjoyed the pizza place in the Kempinski and also the big mehana on the left hand side about halfway along Pirin St.
Or just live on chicken kebabs from the kiosk towards the Fortuna.
My favourite resturants in Bansko is 1792 beside Hotel Mura.
The Irish Bar formally known as Saint Gerrards opposite Eagle's Nest Hotel.
The Mehanna 500 meters up past Kipinski on the left
(there is a river running through the front garden)
These 3 are reasonable, value for money and are my favourite eateries in Bansko.
thank you everyone for your suggestions, I am writing some down, because I will forget when I get out there.
We particularly would like to go to a traditional bulgarian night, we went to an excellent one 10 years ago in pampo. could anyone recommend one in Bansko to visit.
Jackie
Vodanitsa (watermill) was the best restaurant I went to in Bansko, if you go down to the bottom of Pirin street and bear left it is on a corner and you would need to go down some stairs. Full every night (mainly locals) and no touts.
Yep Dave, you and me and muffy.... with jess in the pushchair... Lillie will sort us out
Big up for the guys at the `Friends' kiosk outside the restaurant at Shilligarnika, definately the best `Gyros' on the mountain... and yes, i do get discount
for a good bulgarian night the big new build on the corner of the cross roads at the top of pirin street by the happy end serves some quality food, wine and on a saturday night they have great traditional local music, dancing, singing with performers. Such a great atmosphere when we were there. Was absolutely packed with locals and tourists a like. great kids for too. Strongly advised to check it out.
