Hello
Another newcomer to the forum - scanning it over the past week has been really useful.
My girlfriend and I are going to Borovets on Jan 29th for the week, shes ski-schooling it (first timer) and Im snowboarding (at a not quite intermediate level). If anyone had quick easy answer to the following questions, Id be grateful -
1) Ive booked lift pass but not boots/board - should I try to do this in advance (ie is it cheaper, easier etc)?
2) Our meals are included, but if the food is as bad as some postings suggest, then a top-3 eateries that we could escape to would be useful.
3) Like-wise best places to drink and meet folk.....
4) Is night skiing still happening - one post the other day said it had stopped but the site says its still on?
Thats all - sorry for all the questions. Any responses appreciated.......
Hi Bernie.
We went to borovets last year and are going again on 15th Jan. The food last year was fine there is a good Steak House at the bottom of the slopes near the Hotel Rila. Can't remember the names of the other restaurants but there is a great Pizza place as well.
As for the night skiing. I believe it is on Mon, Wed and Fri
Cant answer the first answer as i have my own gear but i took my daughter last year and pre booked her equipment through this site and got quite a decent deal but if you bung the blokes who give out the stuff a few lev you should get a decent pair of ski's, boots, board etc...
The food depends on where you are staying but i stayed at the Rila and found it to be ok but not particually hot at times and a bit bland but if you decide to eat out there are a number of good cheap places to fill ...

Check out the Buzz Bar to meet people and get hammered and not pay the earth for it.
Night skiing is back on again this year but inly on mon, wed and fridays and that is the reason i am going back again the end of Feb
Have a great time and i am sure you will...
I would book your boots and bits before you go out, I believe it will be more expensive out there.
Try Francos for pizza, Jimmys at the bottom of the Olymp nursery slope (very nice but a bit expensive), I also had a good meal in the Blue Bar. Oh, and Mamacittas too. All good really. I quite like the Rila lobby bar for a drink too.
HOW COLD?!
Hi! im going to borovets on Saturday (14th Jan 06). just wondered, how cold is it gonna be on the slopes? its my 1st time so im a bit apprehensive. Ive got plenty of layers but can anyone tell me realistically, wot will i be needing to wear while skiing?
Katy's steak and wine is good. Black tiger at foot of Rila slopes is good.
Buzz bar good for drinks. Heard Mammacitas was good but never ate there myself. lobby of Ice angels is good for hot wine. (by the way hot wine in Katy's is vile - they put tea and brandy in it!)
