Boro Truth 1st hand

Just got back from a week in Boro.
We we’re gutted on the whole, I think this site is a good source of info, but before we left the info did say that 2003/2004 season had a snowboard only piste, which turned out to be completely un-true, I was wondering why their we're no photos of it ;-(.

Also didn't mention that the 1 man chair lift was out of action, and also all the Markoudjik 1,2,3 slopes were refusing boarders access. And even if they did the drags are impossible to get up on a board.
I see since coming back they have updated it to say 2004/2005 season, nice but doesn't help me much now.
Due to this beginners, practically boarders - once progressing off the massively over crowed nursery slopes, had nowhere but rocky, icy and daunting red runs. And to get to these involved either a massive queue for the gondala or a dangerous to get off quad chair.
I was disappointed with the standard of boarding instruction and organisation, which was a sham. As an intermediate boarder I was offered no help at all so we just sacked it off and did our own thing. I then had to help the beginners we were with get upto scratch as their instructers were so useless. However the standard of ski instruction seemed to be much better.
I think Bulgaria is a good place to visit, their are some great people their, we loved Pamps last year, but this year was a disaster pretty much from start to finish and the lack of or wrong info made it a whole lot worse, in the end I wouldn't fancy going back again and certainly wouldn’t use Balkan Holidays !! nor would I trust the resort info given out on this site.
I do hope they sort things out and if your going out I really hope it was better for you than it was for us !

It was totally opposite experience for us!! We actually read the details on this site which informed us that the special piste for snowboarders was in Pamps and that the 1 man chair was closed this season!! We skiers had a fab time - all pistes accessible, only a couple had stones on, and that made it a challenge in itself!!

Sorry you had such a miserable time Crying

We had fun don't get get me wrong, but mostly because of who we were with rather than were. I think I would have been much better if the 4 bigginer boarders in our party had somewhere to go ! Porbably wouldn't be as negaitive If we we're all skiiers.
If though I was aware of that, we definatly would have chosen Andorra or somewhere.
I agree that the apres ski is good and cheap, and new year was good in the town.

And about that quad chair, the posting on the site never really clarified that the 4 man quad was replacing the 1-man chair lift.
This is not the case, it is definatly not an upgrade and I can clarify that the implication is that all the slopes to the left of Mattifiov Baraki are not availible.
Some of the locals told us that the guy who was investing in the mountain was knocked off by the local mafia and the money taken away, this is why the snowboard piste is not built and no money is ...

This place needs investment and fast !

Mark that was defenatrly true, it had some good snow and the head instructers who are ski instructors didn't want snowboarders to ruin the good snow for the skiiers. Thats propabvly fair enough and it should be OK if your good enough to make it down a 5k red run from the top down, and avoid the rocks, but i'm sure they'll be more snow by the time you get their. Talk to the instructors about which ones yoiu can go down, as some have steap buttons lifts you can't get up unless your a skiier. ...

We got stuck like that but luckly was saved the 2k up the slope walk by a snow plough

Hi

Amanda, when you say that all runs were accessible, does that include the nice long blue run from the sitnyakovska? Was there another way to get to it as the one-man chair is out?

Thanx

re: Boro Truth 1st hand

We have just returned from Borovets. First time snowboarders. Had a great instructor, Bobby. Security did try to throw us off some of the runs at the top of the gondola, but if you are with a Boroski instructor you are usually OK. Don't be put off. The boarders need to complain to their reps if there is any trouble. The more they complain, the less the skiers can throw their weight around.

ConfusedMy husband and son going to boro on the 17th Jan have never been before. Husband skiing, son snowboarding. Both had lessons at home. Concerned about son not being able to snowboard, or will be separated frm hubbie all day. Is that the case. Any info much appreciated.

They will be fine on the lower slopes. It was only at the top of the gondola where there were problems.
