I stayed in the Rila in 2006 and was not impressed.Even though the food was ok,the hotel was cold and was to big.Its probably one of the most expensive to stay in aswell.
Stayed in the Lion in 2007 and was impressed.Clean hotel with good food.Had a feel of a hotel unlike the Rila, and in most cases is cheaper to stay there.Friendly staff aswell.Even though it is outside the centre, there are always taxis waiting. But its just as good to stay at the hotel and have a ...

Stayed in the Samakov in Feb 2008.Even though its a big hotel it was reasonably good.Food was ok,rooms wernt to bad.Nice swimming pool and good sauna.
Going back to the Lion on the 10th of January.I would reccomend this hotel to anyone. Its a nice quiet place and isnt full of people all the time.Food is good and nice warm feel to the place!

Hi,
Great review and very fair, i have been to Borovets for the last 6 years and going again this year, i agree the equipment is very hit and miss, the mariela we used twice and the first year it was diabolical, giving out the old style stright skis, the excuse as they had all there skis stolen!!, the second year we went fully prepared to argue and found it was all brand new equipment. I have also used the Rila depots and generally these were ok using salomon equipment, i do think that the ...
Hi,
Great review and very fair, i have been to Borovets for the last 6 years and going again this year, i agree the equipment is very hit and miss, the mariela we used twice and the first year it was diabolical, giving out the old style stright skis, the excuse as they had all there skis stolen!!, the second year we went fully prepared to argue and found it was all brand new equipment. I have also used the Rila depots and generally these were ok using salomon equipment, i do think that the way a question is raised goes a long way to gaining the response you want, not that i am saying anyone has been rude or argumentative, though some are typical brits abroad, if they dont understand then shout!, If you are experiencing problems then either get the rep or instructor to resolve the issue, mind you i am lucky as the Borosport ski school manager is a friend. If you consider what you pay to go to Borovets then nobody can expect Alpine quality, in the past i have not had a problem with the piste conditions and the bashers were out morning and night, there was a post on here that said the bashers did not start until jan! not sure why or if this is the case but i have always gone the last week in jan.
But as all the post say, you will not go hungry and go with the view you are going to have fun then you will not be disappointed.
Role on 25th Jan

I have to take my hat off to everyone for their honest feedback on Borovets. But I also have to add my general comments aswell.
I am heading to Borovets at the latter part of January and my flights have cost me £80 and my room (half board)cost me £130. OK, I still have to pay my hotel transfer which we will share between five of us and I still have to pay out for my liftpass but paying £235 (plus lift pass) for 5 days skiing is still bloody cheap.

I have done Andorra on the cheap before now and it has still cost me over £400. I don't expect masses for my money but as long as I have fun with my mates and get a bit of boarding in at the same time then I shall be more than happy. I'm not expecting France or Austria but I am not paying France or Austria prices. Whilst I agree that we don't want to be ripped off and that short changing may be a problem, let's not forget what attracted us to blulgraia in the first place, this is a cost effective winter sports holiday. If we wanted the snow cover or the facilities of some of the Alps resorts then we would no doubt pay for them.
Please don't take offence to this post as it is by no means ment as a dig to anyone but please think about the price you are paying in comparrison to another resort. If it is too expensive then may be there are other resorts that meet your requirements?
