Hi all,
I have just booked my first european ski holiday to Borovets starting on March 6. I have had minimal skiing experience, and I dont need to have lots of different runs open or anything. I am getting a little concerned about the posts I have seen online that preach doom and gloom, and I was just looking for someone to put my mind at ease.
How bad can it get in Borovets in early March? Will there always be a few runs open regardless? What are the skiing conditions for a novice like if they need to rely solely on the snow cannons, or can they not produce a skiiable surface with the snow cannons?
After many bad reports I went to the following website:
http://www.borovets-bg.com/
Here they had photos posted for the last few days and the snow looks amazing despite reports I have heard. Am I paranoid? Will it always be OK for a beginner?
Hi Jeremy, just come back from Borovets on Saturday, after my first ever weeks skiiing. On arrival, all roads were covered in snow, all slopes were open and we had a great time. However - by Saturday it was 14 degrees. All snow on the roads had melted although the slopes were ok if a little icey first thing. Watch out for dayley reports from Kas, but I would suggest there is a desperate need for new snow.
dont worry mate ive been last six years and go again on the 7th cannons will only work if cold enough, the top of the mountain is always ok and i always been able to ski the rila side. if theres no snow there is plenty of bars.

Hey Jeremy,
I was some years in March in Bulgaria, last year I arrived after the big holidays Samokov and the first days look like spring. Samokov it the town 10km away from Borovez and on something in the 900m height. The girls starting to wear shirts and rocks anyone sit in the sun no more snow,in Borovez the upper Slopes have perfect conditions. I leaved at the 12 and at night it start snowing from 6 in the morning till 11 we had 15cm of fresh snow down in the valley and the winter was back for several weeks.
So head up, today the bulgarian mountain rescue, posted 20 cm snow in Borovez, upper slopes between 60 and 100cm and temps under zero.
Maybe Boro is not the best choice if all you want to do is ski? Pay twice the price and choose the Alps a lot higher with a lot more snow! Me, I like to take a chance with Boro and have all round entertainment.
