Dear all. Just returned with my Girlfriend Jane from Borovets. Kind of a mixed review really. The skiing was enjoyable, as a relative novice I thought the resort was ideal.
The ski school was excellent, the group I was with were superb, if your reading this Gary, John, Jo, Andy, everone infact and Ivan the instuctor hope you have an excellent year and it was briliant meeting and skiing with you all.

We stayed in the Rila, apparently a 4 star hotel, 4 start my arse. A previous review called it a Victorian work house, how apt!! The rooms were ok, basic but ok,what really fucked us off was the fact that for 4 days out of 7 there was no hot water or heating after 15:00 hrs and all the ignorant twats on reception could say was " its a major disapointment".
Quite frankly they are a bunch of liars, who have no idea or customer service, the head receptionist was a camp, muppet, who just did not have a clue.
The food!! in the Rila was cold and bland, we always ate out, go to the
Golden Horn for Pizza,Kaseys steak house for steaks. Mamma Mia is good for food as is Franko's, superb Bulgarian Pork casserole.
Where to avoid? Shite Tragic ( sorry white magic ), shite and tragic basically describes the arseole who runs it! On our first night we called in, he was all over us like a rash, making promises about ski doos etc. The twat even advertised ski doo experience at 21 lev per person per hr anytime you want, he said! When we wnet to book, it changed to £21 per person, which then went to 60 Lev and we had to book there and then. When we challenged him he got shitty.
What ever you do dont eat in their its rank, I had chicken curry, which tasted like cardboard with some crap sauce on it!
Ski doos are excellent fun, you pay for an hr for 2 and swap over at the turn about point, much better and professional than the monkey in shite tragic was offering.
Booze is cheap and good quality nearly everywhere, apart from shite tragic.
Overall It was an enjoyable week, good skiing, good companyjust the occasional twatish bar owner and the Rila staff, who need a serious course on customer relations ( except on the last day when they want a tip ).
Finally, I have nothing against snowboarders, but last week saw some complete wankers, who didnt care if the wiped you out, so watch out for them on the blue runs inparticular.

If you have read this board before you went, as you say you had, then you would know that Bulgarian 4 star is of a lower standard than the UK.
Staff at the Rila are liars, the bar owners rip you off and there is little customer service, I suppose judging by the attitude you have shown on here maybee you asked for it.

I have only been to Bulgaria twice, 1 to each Pamps and Borovets, and can say that both times everyone in my group and all I went with have had a great time and never had a problem with any hotel staff or bar owners.
Yes I appreciate that no or little hot water is a pain, but still try to enjoy your holiday as everyone works hard all year for a precious week off, so make the most of it.

Thanks for expressing your opinion - but that's what it was - your personal opinion and thanks for letting us know the problems you experienced.
As Jo says, it is a family discussion board and there are a number of younger people who post on this board so please respect them and stop the bad language.
Things were not to your personal liking, but that doesn't mean that someone else had the same experiences - you are the first one to complain about the White Magic - most people can ...

Pleased my kids were not around if he was using language like that!
White Magic was ok on my visits there, with the kids, friendly enough without being in your face i thought!

I agree with Chris. The staff at the Rila are miserable and should be reminded that we are actually paying their wages. As for the White Magic bloke, he does his best to get you on his side and then to rip you off!!
Why should anyone need to read a website to confirm whether a 4 star advertised in a brochure is actually 4 star??
Skiing ok - pistes not bashed, and megga busy as Gondola not working half the week. Food stone cold at the Rila but edible food can be found elsewhere - ...

For people who haven't experienced ski-ng then to get to see if you like it is fine, I prefer a little more luxury and customer service than you will get in Bulgaria.

Sorry.
but I agree with Chris.
Ok the language a little strong, but maybe he was unaware that this was a website for all to read, so tut tut chris.
Some of you seem to only read the bad parts, he actually said it was a good holiday, with the exception over a overhyped hotel and the sad muppet at the white magic ( i could think of worse things to call the low life worm )
