thinking of trying Borovets this year, with wife and kids. Can anyone recommend a quietish hotel, with decent half board food that is waliking distance from the centre/shops?
I have stayed in the Rila and Samokov before. 8-9 years ago. I am returning this season. Food was appaling everywhere then. I hope it has improved. The Rila was not too bad to stay in. Right beside the slopes but not too quiet. try the Iglika Palace. Its new and supposed to be not bad.

Hi Mike,
I've stayed at the Samokov for several years now, if you ask for a high floor room It should be quiet enough.
It's position is one of the best in resort.
Food: Breakfast is great, evening meal not quite so, but eating out is very cheap.
Hope this helps.
can but am not allowed to!! whatever you do give the Olmp a miss, Samakovs good unless they put you near the lift, it 'bings' all night long. We stayed in the Ela last year it was good enough to recommned , if you dont mind a mini bus transfer to the main lifts try the ' Lion' its new and good.
The Iglika is a nice small hotel right near the slopes and village centre. The food is much better than the rila but still not fantastic.Have stayed in both and would pick the Iglika over the rila
The Iglika - small, half board and right in the centre of it, between the Samokov and Rila - it's about 100 bedrooms as opposed to the Samokov and Rila being about 400 rooms.
Stayed in the Samokov December 2003- nice enough hotel and food was acceptable and plentiful. Eating out probably the only way to get good food. Friend of mine stayed at the Igleka Palace January 05 which just behind the Rila - you can use the back door to get to the Rila for it's entertainment etc. She said it was nice and cosy and food was reasonable.
