Hi - just would like some advice please. Myself and my son are looking to go skiing early January but are a bit concerned after reading posts on here from last year when people are saying there was no snow. We are complete beginners having never skied before. What are the chances of getting some skiing done if there is no snow, would we be wasting our money or are there some contngency plans so that the nursery slops/ski schools would be available. Thanks for any info. Di.
As long as the temperatures are cold enough, they will be able to put on the snow cannons, so even if there is not much snow it is unlikely that beginners wouldn't be able to ski at all. This year, they have put in new snow cannons on the Rotata beginner slope which means that 2 of the nursery slopes now have them - they have also linked these pipes to a new reservoir system so again, as long as temps are cold they will run constantly.
I would say you will be fine, but you ...

I would say you will be fine, but you never know!! Also, last year, one of the shcools transferred people over to Bankso (FOC) as there was more snow there, so again, there may be this option. All the ski schools continued to run as much as possible even with little snow as the last thing the instructors want is not to work - so, if there is a lack of snow, they will still try and get you out there!!
I would say go for it! Click on my name and send me an email if you need any more help!
Hi wolvogirl,
We went out to Boro 5 years ago as complete beginners and have been every year since either the first or second seek in Jan. last year wasnt great due to poor snow conditions BUT, the year before there was that much snow that they couldn't land the plane! We have skied every year and have booked to go this Jan on the 8th!!!
I can highly recommend Boro for 1st timers, there are green slopes at the top of the moutain that the instructors should have you on by day 3! so even if ...

I can highly recommend Boro for 1st timers, there are green slopes at the top of the moutain that the instructors should have you on by day 3! so even if it isnt great in the resort there should be some snow up there and as Kas said there are lots of snow cannons to assist!
Hope this helps.
Pete.
Ps stay away from Kas, she cost me a days skiing last yr by introducing me to Bulgarian drinking traditions!
Thanks Kas and waterskipete, your information has been invaluable. I am going to grab the bull by the horns as they say and have made the decision to go. I will wait though to book a bit closer to the time. We are planning to go 8 Jan and stay at Hotel Flora. It is coming up at £1087 for 2 of us (including our beginner ski package) so hopefully it will come down in price as we get closer to the time. Thinking may be leaving it as late as xmas to book. Im off to look at the ski clothing in Lidl tomorrow to get myself and my son kitted out. Don't want to spend to much on it just incase I a bit useless at it and never go again (a strong possibility). Thanks again.
Be carefull not to leave it too late if you are planning to use a tour op. They often give back their room allocations about 4 weeks in advance if they have not sold them, though they sometimes do resort only last minute deals where the hotel is allocated in resort.
Believe me I am sure you will not be useless, thre are very few people who find they hate it, and if you can stand upright on high heels then I am sure skis wont be a problem. If you go with an open mind I am sure you will ...

Believe me I am sure you will not be useless, thre are very few people who find they hate it, and if you can stand upright on high heels then I am sure skis wont be a problem. If you go with an open mind I am sure you will find you will enjoy it, I didnt start till the age of 47.
If you dont find the clothing in lidl, decathlon do some really inexpensive gear, and its also available mail order.
Wolvo Girl,
I have justr booked with Balkan.
Staying in the Samokov half board with full ski packs, inc lift pass equipment hire and tuition (learner packs are often cheaper) on 8th Jan from East Midlands for £843 for 2 adults!
Pete

Hey Kas!
Have you noticed how quick waterskipete is to pass the blame onto someone else for his lack of drinking tolerance! ha ha!
Are you doing the Sunday nite get-togethers again this year! We had a fab nite!
Maybe you could join us Di if you go 8th!
