we are going to rila on 7th feb booked with first choice. We could only book our 9 year old for lessons with the travel co and have got to book our 6 year old lessons when we get their. Do you know what ski school the rila uses for its clients or even better first choice and if so do you know what their telephone number is or contact email so I can book up his lessons before we go, because as far as I can make out it will be twice the price when booked up at the resort rather than before you get there. I also want my 6 year old to ski in lessons with our friends children who are from 8 years upwards and are at the same level skiing as our 6 year old. Do you think that its possible that he will be able to ski with them in the ski school and stay together rather than be left alone in the ski kindergarten? Also did you feel that the full day lessons were too much for the younger ones or is it possible to just go for the morning and just free ski with friends in the afternoon?
I like the idea of them joining us for a few lessons as it would be great to see them skiing but is it really up to the instructor?
I was also thinking about the noise element of the rila and was thinking about asking in advance for a studio on the highest floors so as to avoid the noise that apparently comes from downstairs. Are they quite easy going about doing that in the hotel when you arrive?

Sorry I'm not much help as we booked both children in at the Travel Agent. On the Sunday morning when you arrive you go to the Ski Depot and then the Instructors seem to sort you out as you walk out, they are not pre-allocated names or anything like that, you are just given a ski school pass by your Rep. Our two children went with 'Dimi' and 'Annie' who we thought were both very good but a bit overwhelmed by numbers initially, I think they were the main / only childrens school. ...

There was a kindergarten but we did not use them.
Our children lasted two full days, finishing at 3.00pm but it was a bit much for them although they were OK to join the adults after that. Part of the problem was that some of the older kids decided to take themselves off which meant that one teacher had to look for them, the other looked after most of the rest and the youngest were left in a Restaurant. I don't blame the school as such as in the situation the Instructors had little choice, my wife found our kids in the Restaurant next to where we normally met them with the waiter / barman doubling up as a childrens entertainer giving them coke and blowing up balloons etc.... but that was the final straw for them. As I say I don't blame the Instructors as they can't really do much if some of the 'little darlings' will not do as they are told. I think one or two Mums stayed with their children but if it is busy it will probably hamper your learning, that being said if it isn't and there are not too many in the class the technique for a 6 year old is the same as for a 60 year old (I'm not suggesting that you are 60!!).
Luckily our Instructor was Ok with them coming into our group, a few of the adults decided to drop out after two days which also gave him room I suppose and the remaining adults were very understanding, our original plan was to take it in turns to look after them but the Instructor insisted it would be OK. It all seemed pretty informal really.
I don't know about reserving rooms, it may be worth a try. We were lucky that ours was fine in terms of noise. I still think that, from speaking to others, that wherever you are allocated the noise risk comes from whoever is booked around you and not the street outside. I did take some earplugs in case but didn't need them.
