Maybe I'm strange, but I dont mind the ungroomed pistes! Even the ice doesnt bother me anymore. And in a way, I'm a better skiier because of it! But not everyone is like me!
I do agree, the piste grooming is bad. And its probably this one aspect that will put people off returning! Which is a shame.
I do like Bansko but then again it may not be up to your high expectations. Why don't you go and give it a go?
There is no point in you taking note of anything anyone says on here because you did that before and in your opinion 95 % of them were talking rubbish.
I too can ski snarfacus but maybe what you dont admit to is that maybe your level of skiing aint what you try to put across to everyone on this site.
If you know so much about groomed pistes why dont you get yer arse over there and help out as i am sure someone as well informed as you can turn this resort around if not stop slagging the pistes down and go to Italy as you say they know what they are doing there.
Bye Bye snarfacus you wont be missed!
to be fair guys the grooming wasn't great but with the amount of snow cover they have in borovets it's not thier fault either as without snow it's hard to maintain a good quality piste. just look at snow reports for canada, unbelievable amount of snow cover but it's not fair to compare borovets to somewhere like whistler. it is what it is and i think they did a good job of keeping the pistes skiable, i had a great time!
I would have to agree about the blue crossing the reds and blacks, ...

I would have to agree about the blue crossing the reds and blacks, i saw quite a few accidents due to those on the blue not being aware of who is above them and those coming down the red or black not being aware of those below! so i'd have to agree it wasn't ideal but lets be honest, compare all aspcts to the price you pay and it's hard to fault it!! Ill go again,i know that!
cheers robbo, it's my honest opinion and i think people should be taught awareness of others before they even put a ski or board on. safety first for you and those around you! i think it would help cut accidents down. mind you half the time it's people who think they're the hermanator after a couple of days on ski's that end up hurting themselves! ski or board within your limits, don't try to push them to breaking poin:-)
Just returned last night from staying in the Rila for the week.
Look for a budget ski resort you can't really complain.
Don't see anything above that I really disagree with.
I have 2 kids 3 & 5 and taking them with was a challenge if not a mistake - why?
2 reasons the 3yr old was too young to ski or even attempt and secondly the Rila kindergarten (not kids ski school) was terrible.
They seem badly if not at all prepared to look after kids other than babies, my two point blank refused to ...

They seem badly if not at all prepared to look after kids other than babies, my two point blank refused to return - and I could see why.
A room with no windows a tiny tv and some old toys, babies and toddlers left to cry - not good. The staff left something to be desired we reffered to them as the 'Orphanage Matrons', dictortorial / cold rather than caring & playful with the kids.
However we didn't give up and took the kids down the road to the Somokov hotel kindergarten which althoug basic was a different story, kids loved it there they went out in the snow on walks, up the gondola, played games etc, it was tears at time to leave if we collected them early!
It was also cheaper than the Rila as well!
Now if your kids are over 6 they can ski in ski school, most instructors aren't strict and are more than used to handling different ability groups (within reason). What I saw though was the adults held the kids up by day 3/4!
I've never been skiing before, loved it and would go back to boro & the Rila, but we're not going o take the kids back for a couple of years.
The pistes were icy at times but that taught me a lot of control and buy the end of the week I was doing the black in 6 turns ...even with the ice....The bashers do there best but if there is no new snow there's not alot they can do.
I thought the biggest problem was closed lifts forcing everyone to ski in one area... the Gondola was closed for travel to the top runs from Thursday ... and this is where some peoples gripes would come from.
If you are an experienced skiier and you don't want to cross blue/greens with ski school traffic on then go up to the top of the Gondola and use the reds .... you not going to get slow skiiers coming down Yesrebetz 1,2,3!! although in madness I went there on day2!
Back to Rila and food --- it's edible and our kids loved the fun of the buffet, but you should plan to go out a couple of times during the week if you like your food. Frankos pizza was tasty (traditional not domino style) the chinese was good value, you get loads, the black cat was good as well.
I forgot to say we won the quiz at Frankos! (We don't like mushrooms!- Funghi!) Yeah silver ltd edition I-Pod towered in artistic value over the ski match stick men.
All in all will be going back, will stay at the Rila, will eat there, will swim there, will drink there.... won't use the kindergarten!
Hi Kai, thanks for the posting, very informative. Great relief that my 7 yr old can go to ski school with his brother, whose 8!. I don't think he would go to the Rila Kindergarden anyway, and after your report, he certainly would be bored. Thanks again. I will have to purchase the lift pass, boots etc. ski school for my youngest out there. Regards. Yvette
How easy was it to change your kindergarten? i've been worrying about the Rila kindergarten since we booked, I heard rumours while out there last year. Last year I booked the Ela kindergarten through travel agents, it was british run and friendly. Any advice would be good this is my only concern.
hahaha kai! just read your message and burst into fits of laughter!! we don't like mushrooms, yep it's ross here :-) the one who cannot dance!! i did my best but when up against the pole dancing fat guy what could i do?!! Found out that our "champagne" was 3 lev bulgarian sparkling wine from one of the shops!!
i hope the harry potter dvd works when you try it out! great night:-) FUNGHI!!!!!!!!!!
