Borovets & Rila horror stories!!!

Good, now that I have got your attention I will tell you the truth abouth the horror stories you might have read, the truth is that...........................THERE ARE NO HORROR STORIES TO TELL!!

We have just got back from Borovets today and stayed at the Rila hotel, the hotel was fantastic, it was always kept very clean, the rooms were fine and cleaned every day. There's nothing wrong with the food in the restaurant, breakfast consists of a large choice of fresh fruit, cereal, and the ...

We have just got back from Borovets today and stayed at the Rila hotel, the hotel was fantastic, it was always kept very clean, the rooms were fine and cleaned every day. There's nothing wrong with the food in the restaurant, breakfast consists of a large choice of fresh fruit, cereal, and the usual fry up (eggs, bacon (tinned), sausages, fried bread etc. The evening meals offer cooked meats, vegetables, salads, boiled potatoes, stewed potatoes chips........we ate there most nights with our children and never had any problems.

The pool was cold but the hot tub was fantastic, the bar was good and drinks weren't too expensive but were cheaper on the street, we never noticed any ladies of the night and there were plenty of security guards, the hotel staff were all pleasant and friendly.

As for the resort, where do I start, the place is awsome, this was our first skiing trip and we have been totally spoilt. The locals are welcoming, the bars and restaurants offer good food and friendly service (would recommend the Black Cat, Pizza Napoli....), the only minor down side was the children begging in the evening but just be polite and say "no sorry" and they won't hassle you.

The runs were good but by the end of the week were getting very icy, even with the good dump of snow we had mid-week. Our 8 year old, like me, had never skied before and by the end of the week he was doing black runs when i could only manage blue!!

I could go on and on and it would all be positives, thanks to everyone in the Rila and Borovets for such a great holiday.

A big thank you to Bobi our instructor, what a star guy, a good tutor and a good laugh!!!

Thanks again, enjoy your time there, we all did Razz Razz

Thanks Cafu for your posting and we can't wait until we go on the 11th. We too, are staying in Borovets and staying at the Rila. Our boys are 7 and 8, and they have 1 lesson on the dry slopes, and passed level 1 and started level 2. At this rate, they will be over taking us. Thanks for the re-assurance. Do you know what time the ski hire place opens for boots etc. plus do you forsee any problems with my 7 yr old sking with my 8 yr old. (As brochures say, if you are under 8 you go with ...

(As brochures say, if you are under 8 you go with kindergarden, but they don't do much sking!). Regards. Yvette

re: Borovets & Rila horror stories!!!

love the rila
i think youl find that rarely people complain about the rila but point out the few things that some people might not know about or expect to see
the food isnt to everyones taste but the majority eat there during their stay
the ladies of the night are there but arent in your face
the rooms are good
the poolside is slippery and the pool is deep for younger children
we to, with the children again, are returning to Boro after a number of years and still stay at the ...

re: Borovets & Rila horror stories!!!

Yvette, our youngest is only 3 so never skied with the kindergarden, I do know that they take the 4-7 year olds out on skis for an hour each day. You would be able to hire skis in the resort, there is a place on the nursery slope that rents out skis and sledges. He quoted me 50 levs (£18 ish) for two days rental as I'd intended to ski at night but never did (Was too busy bum boarding!!!), ski classes finish at 3.00 so you get a couple of hours use of the equipment after that so you should ...

Hope this helps.

re: Borovets & Rila horror stories!!!

We sat and watched them grooming the pistes upto 11.30 most nights so they do look after them. The snow cover towards then end of the week was a bit icey which doesn't help but (where possible) they were hauling snow up to cover the effected areas.

re: Borovets & Rila horror stories!!!

What did exactly go wrong with your holiday last season Snarfacus ?

You seem so bitter and twisted. Many other skiers come on here and praise Borovets after visiting many other European resorts.

If it was so bad for you, what interests you in Borovets so much that you have to come on this site all season to run it down ?

re: Borovets & Rila horror stories!!!

i give borevets a chance, hotel was fine, people nice, but the standard of the pistes were awlful, also the poistion of the pistes are not the best with reds crossing blues, when coming down the red infront of the rila i had to jump the blue to go straight on to the black, where else do this happen, its mad. i think people has the right to know the truth about these pistes, from somebody who knows and has been there, i was looking forward to borovets from all the chat but the slopes did not ...
