re: Borovets conditions

The reason that the top section is not open for skiing is the lack of snow. Have a look at the videos taken on the 14th Jan and you can see the conditions up at the top of the Gondola.

The photos on the site are on the Yasterdbets slopes which are covered by snow cannons so Runs 2 and 3 look good and are reported to be in good condition in other peoples posts. Im due out on Thursday for 11 days hosting 2 groups in that time. May yet decide move flights or cancel.
Kas keep up your reports they are appreciated, hope someone fills in in your abscence.

re: Borovets conditions

I just got back from Borovets last night and I can definitely confirm that there is not 70cm of snow. When we arrived last Sunday, there was probably about 5cm snow on the lower slopes and streets/area's by hotel no snow coverage, we had a bit of snow, but only say 5cm or so, so it did cover a bit more concrete, basically the whole week there was 2 reds open at the top of the gondola (although a bit icey and only open due to snow cannons), and the nursery slopes outside Rila (i.e not the ...

On a positive note - the place was friendly, cheap & met some lovely people, including Kas who's posts on here are the most accurate - do not listen to anything else I would say.

re: Borovets conditions

I can confirm I have been in resort for 2 weeks now, and there is not enough snow to ski up the top as yet, so keep your fingers cross for more snow, at least another 35 cm.

re: Borovets conditions

Charlie, I've also just got back from a fab week there but used the same two red runs all week - did ski down from top once but conditions were awful, dodging stones and skiing on ice - basically ruining the hire skis! Yastrebets 1 and 2 had great snow in some places as the cannons were on full time BUT there is very little natural snow - just compare past snow (depth) reports and you can see the difference. You need a good base and it is not there. Kas is reporting it factually and its ...

You need a good base and it is not there. Kas is reporting it factually and its a great benefit for the majority of people using this forum so take the advice on the forum in the spirit it is intended. If I had just read the agent reports and such like I would have been bitterly disappointed by the lack of snow.
